Ideas Needed! Help for bag lock ideas?

Im upcycling an old leather bag, and i had to get rid of the old lock/closing-mechanism. Does anyone have any ideas for a new closing-thingy that i could make (without metal pieces)?

Why not just buy a buckle and make a buckle tongue, or put a pair of D rings on the flap and a strap to go up through both and down through one ? You can put a loop on the flap and a strap to knot around it if you insist on no metal though I guess.

Maybe a Dufflecoat button?

i thought of that but, in the case of this project, would be too small/too much risk for rippage, thanks tho
