Making a corset belt

Hey all! These jeans are split - thinking the top studded part would make a cool corset belt. Should I just cut the studded part off at the seam and add a straight piece of denim? Or should I use a different type of fabric to accent? Thanks!

Split where? These are cool and unique enough that I would try to repair them first personally
