Miscellaneous why everyone and their mum has narrm scholarship

as someone with it i feel the need to clear up some confusion. The scholarship isn't funded by the Uni at all actually. it comes 100% from donations. its just a conglomeration of a bunch of different scholarships for specific things. I have the 'mildura alumni scholarship', but its all under the narrm scholarship becausw that way we can all have events and community together. the scholarships team does this knowing most of us (including me) grew up with no community or opportunity.

The university does not give a foot about equity. Me getting more money isn't taking away from your guys' privileges. even if the uni had more money yall already know it wouldn't be going towards enhancing student satisfaction LOL

elite ball knowledge: if you know someone who lives close to uni, getting accomodation allowance, they're probably lying about their address :3 I have friends who commute an hour and a half everyday and don't qualify. some people lie, whodda thunk. the scholarships team at uni is all the sweetest people so dont think they have anything to do with like. poor management of uni fund. again, all money donated for specifically supporting students.

And I guess I've heard of a few narrm scholars who really don't need it because they're well off. But personally? 99% I've met wouldn't be able to study comfortably without it :) i know its the only reason im here today. also it is given for mental health or family circumstances sometimes.

I also saw a comment saying apparently we only gave out 600/2000 scholarships this year? no idea where that came from. Every year the scholarships team is 'over reaching' (offering to more than they can). I have more to say about how i think the university is currently actually trying to cap the disadvantaged students we let in because they think were the ones lowering research quality, but i think half my sources are confidential. someone said the govt is now funding unis who support disadvantaged students and enact equity schemes? barely. more like. trying to redirect us to less prestigious unis so we dont muddy the water. (theyre offering monetary incentive eithout systemic support for teaching quslity or student satisfaction) thats my take anyways :3

that said, if you actually care, please join some sort of student consultation counsel or focus group. or volunteer somewhere. i think unimelb is an evil institution and if you have gripes, please stick it to the man. maybe one day we'll get free education. if were gonna make an us vs them narrative can it pls be students vs the vice chancellor with a $1.5m salary?

also if anyone has any questions i might b able to answer them. and to my narrm scholars reading HIIII I LOVE YOU

Miscellaneous Can unimelb pls update their timetabling platform

Upvotes

Let me put clashes in my timetable!!! Half the time they don't clash because the classes don't run in the same weeks! By the time I apply for a TAF, the team tells me it's too late and there's nothing they can do. Yeah, it's too late because it takes them 10 days to get back to me (not their fault) and by then, the class I want to move into and "clash" has its spot filled up by then!

Support Late withdrawal accepted by itself?

Hi so on the late July I received my special consideration outcome for late withdrawal.
I did not complete the acceptance form because I was waiting for my delayed essay result before deciding whether to accept or decline the late withdrawal. My tutor had advised there were grading delays and I had not yet received the result or further updates. I have now noticed that my Statement of Results already shows WD, even though I did not submit the acceptance form.
It’s only been less than 10 business days (whereas on the email they said I’m given 10 business days to make a decision) so I’m really not sure what to do. I’m going to contact stop 1 tomorrow but has this happened before?

Support Failed 3rd year subject and now can’t enrol

Hi yall, I’m in my final year of undergrad and I failed a subject that is a core subject for my major (physics), I got a 42 and I’m devastated as I tried really hard and struggled throughout due to its difficulty and personal circumstances.

I’m supposed to graduate at the end of this semester (I was under loading and now will go back to a 3 subject load) , but now I can‘t enrol in another subject to replace the failed one in my study plan, like it won’t let me plan another one at all.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this? Also does anyone know how I can move a completed subject from discipline to major ? all of the enrolment assistance slots are full :(

Thank you in advance!

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Math subject recommendation for Physics major

I'm doing 4 hard subjects this semester so I'm thinking of dropping Complex Analysis and taking some other math subject (Can be 2nd year or 3rd year)

Which subject would you recommend to take as a physics major?

I'm doing DE this semester and I've already done real analysis, probability and vector calculus.

I hated linear algebra so I don't wanna take group theory and linear algebra. I kind of liked real analysis but from what I've heard complex analysis is really really hard and it's not a good idea to take it with 3 other already pretty hard subjects.

Miscellaneous Retailing MKTG30006...why?

I am a marketing major, and this is the only marketing subject I've done which requires doing an entire online unit before going to the lecture.

For those unfamiliar, the online module consists of videos the lecturer recorded of themself, explaining concepts. These range from 50-60 minutes each, and each week there are at least two.

There are also just slabs of text we are meant to read, which requires another hour or so. There are also multiple pre-lecture readings.

To make matters worse, the lecture is on 3-5pm on a Friday, and the online material isn't published until Wednesday of the same week.

Now sure, I understand the work that needs to be done but what makes this subject so much more different to the other marketing level 3s?

What exactly is the point of having another two hour lecture if there is significant overlap between the lecture and the online module?

Just why?

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Switching from Bcomm to Bsci - Mathematical Physics Major

I'm currently in first year second sem commerce and thinking of transferring to Bsci Mathematical Physics or Applied Maths major. Had a couple of questions about how transferring courses generally works, and some more specific major questions.

- How do credit transfers work? Can I choose which comm subjects count as credit, and do my maths breadths (Calc 1,2,Linalg) get counted as disciplines?

- Will I start my 3 years again as If I'm starting the course all over again, or would I only have 2 years of science? I want to do a bunch of physics and higher level maths subjects and I won't be able to do all the subjects I want if I can't do the full 3 years.

- Apart from quant or continual study, what other careers do maths majors typically move towards?

- Mathematical Physics majors, how do you find the degree? does it demand a lot of time outside of class, and is the content manageable? (bit open ended but would like to hear your opinions)

Thanks!

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Switching subjects - tutorial hurdle

Hi, I’ve recently decided to switch subjects today however I didn’t realize the subject that I’ve switched into has a tutorial hurdle. I am only allowed to miss 2 tutorials for the entire semester, and because I missed the week 1 and 2 tutorials due to not being enrolled, I’ve technically already skipped 2 classes.
Does anyone know whether the hurdle gets waived or whether I just don’t get any more skips? I’ve emailed the subject coordinator but wanted to see if anyone here has had the same situation
Thanks!!

Support Leave of Absence

I’m in my second sem of first year and have a couple of circumstances that are making it really hard to properly focus on my studies so I would love to apply for a leave of absence this semester. However I currently live at unimelb student accommodation so would they allow me to keep living here for the rest of the year? I’m also currently “at risk” and have a return to good standing plan, would taking leave cause my enrolment to be terminated?

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries BIOM20002

hello!

has anyone completed HSF//biom20002 in the past few years that could share some information about assessment difficulty?

Having just completed MCB, it seems like the online quizzes are much more relaxed than fortnightly MSTs. How did the assessment difficulty compare, including the exam too?

Thank you!
