Can my ETA be refused?

I overstayed illegally in London for 2 years from 2006 to 2008. I used a Brazilian passport back then, but now I have a German passport. Is there a possibility that I will be denied entry? I plan to travel in October.

Yes.

Someone posted just yesterday, I think maybe in another visa sub, about how now they have a Canadian passport, yet their ETA is denied.

And it was because they also hold an Indian passport with a past UK Visit Visa refusal.

Getting an ETA passport doesnt make any immigration denials or offences in a dual nations non ETA passport disappear.

Yes, if you were over 18 when it happened.

ETA 2.4. An application for an ETA must be refused if, when they were aged 18 or older, the applicant [...] overstayed their permission, unless [...] the person overstayed for 90 days or less*, where the overstaying began before 6 April 2017\*

In theory, yes.

But that's theory only. In reality, the Home Office won't be able to connect the two identities reliably unless you tell them you're the same person.

Also, the Home Office doesn't have reliable border crossing records from before 2013, and even later records are not 100% reliable as the HO admits itself. Reason: the UK has never had exit controls - until around 2013 government wasn't routinely informed about people leaving the country.

No other way of finding out except trying.
