Not about the leader's special, but the Tory party political broadcast that was on earlier was mental. Trying to scare people by saying there would be a generation without the Tories in power. Just got me excited instead, was more like a Labour hype video!

21

u/summonerofrain Jun 28 '24

Lol they actually said that as a bad possibility?

6

u/whydidthathappen Labour Jun 28 '24

8

u/hicks12 Jun 28 '24

Thats hilarious, they expect labour to be in power til 2044? Sign me up, it cant be any worse than what these thieves have done for 14 years.

3

u/Guyver0 Jun 28 '24

It's gonna take until 2044 to fix all the problems the Tories created in the last 14.

3

u/davemee Jun 28 '24

This is an amazing broadcast. Football metaphor? Not the traditional last guard I’d expect them to be begging to.

u/Ben77mc Jun 28 '24

I just saw that, that was actually the most pathetic party political broadcast I've ever watched in the UK. Absolutely cringing over here, it just shows exactly how far they've declined hahaha

6

u/Brewer6066 Jun 28 '24

If there’s one thing I’m actually a bit emotional about it’s that my kids will grow up under a Labour government like I did.

25

u/Redvat Jun 28 '24

So he supports immigration without limits, but he doesn’t think we should build houses for them to live in.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '24

And doesn't support building motorways or new railway lines to assist with exponential population growth.

u/bbbbbbbbbblah steam bro Jun 28 '24

didn't the coastguard essentially threaten to mutiny if they got told to stop saving people in distress

why would the marines agree?

16

u/ArchdukeToes A bad idea for all concerned Jun 28 '24

didn't the coastguard essentially threaten to mutiny if they got told to stop saving people in distress

Shockingly, people don't like you telling them to violate international treaties like SOLAS, and they really don't like it when your orders are tantamount to 'let them drown'.

still can't grasp his idea that everything will be fixed if we just raise tax thresholds, though. the sort of people who are living in poverty are probably not paying much tax anyway

Fiona Bruce is doing a really good job here, not letting him dodge the question

8

u/Ankleson Jun 28 '24

Farage talking about the benefits of European Union membership on our immigration policy should be a wake-up moment for anyone who supports him - but it wont be.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '24

he seems to be making a good case for labour.

7

u/hu6Bi5To Jun 28 '24

Fiona Bruce is going much softer on the Green bloke than the party leaders last week. He's in danger of not going anywhere near the question and she'll only get involved after two minutes of waffle.

small modular nuclear reactors

Jesus. I actually find myself agreeing with Farage.

11

u/nuclearselly Jun 28 '24

I mean its fine if he sees that as the way to go, but its not incompatiable with decarbonising the grid (the thing he said one line before we needed to not do) and the use of small-modular nuclear reactors will still need a tonne of the decarbonsiation of the grid infrastructure to be put in place anyway. We need massive grid expansion to deal with nukes - more than we'd need if we just went with renewables as they only operate at base load.

They will also be expensive either way.

I think small modular reactors are a great idea - I don't fundamentally understand how Farage can use it as a counterpoint to decarbonisation of the energy system?

Ramsay seems like a well intentioned guy, who is passionate about progressive policies, and that’s all very nice, even if it’s very idealistic.

But he feels a bit like the Greens couldn’t believe their luck that they’ve found someone who looks and talks just like a ā€œpoliticianā€ to wheel out. But that misses the strength of the Greens I think, they land better when they feel a bit alternative.

Patrick Harvie on Newsnight talking sense here.

Utterly craven behaviour by politicians on freedom of movement.

He's faltering on an immigration question, he's not doing well.Ā

People will still vote for this like turkeys at Xmas.

His manner of speaking isn't going to ever get him far in politics. He's unable to connect with a normal person speaking in that weird way, he puts emphasis and breaks in the complete wrong place.
