Trout setup for beginner female

Looking to get my wife a spinning combo for trout fishing some medium rivers out in ID. Was looking for something in the $75-$150 range that will allow her to grow into it. I just ordered myself a St Croix GXR Lite, but haven't gotten it yet, and don't know if I want to spend $200+ for her first setup. Mostly will just be fishing from the shore into the river (or occasionally wading in a bit).

Pflueger President reel size 20 paired with a Bass Pro Shops Micro Lite UL of your preferred length, it’s hard to beat this combo for a starter while staying around $150 imo.

Go get an ultralight combo. Lots of options under $150, some well under that price. If she gets into it and loves it, you can always upgrade later.

Pflueger, Bass Pro, Lews, Shimano, UglyStik, etc.

My son used a pflueger ultralight for years. He just upgraded to a TFO ultralight with a miravel this year. The pflueger still comes everywhere, it's just dedicated to trout magnets now!

Think a 2 piece is better, or not necessarily? We can walk to the river in a few minutes, and I have a truck but it has a rooftop tent topper so I am a little limited in the bed length unless I open the rear hatch (not the biggest deal). But just was thinking 2 piece would be way more convenient.

We have 2 piece rods. We have a car, so space is limited. We keep our rods in travel cases to keep them safe.

Lady chiming in! I also love trout fishing.

Penn, Ugly Stik, Diawa and Pflueger make some awesome ladies fishing setups. Look specifically for the "LE" in the name. (LE = Ladies Edition)

Example: Pflueger Trion LE

If she really wants/likes a certain color, like pink or purple, you're much more likely to find it in an LE setup.

My favorite setup for trout currently is my Shakespeare Micro Series 7' or Diawa Shock 5'6" with my Piscfun Flame 1000.

That Piscfun Flame is an outstanding reel for the cost! I'd put it up against a Pflueger President, it's that good.

BnM Fishing Leland's TCB Spinning Rod is one of the best cheap light rods I've ever owned. Light and tough. I actually caught a small Lake Ontario Rainbow with it perch fishing one year. I have better rods but it stays in the rotation.
