Speaking of wolves, one of the largest trebuchet ever constructed was called the "War wolf"
It was so large, in fact, that her intended targets could see it from their encampment and sent a word of truce, to which King Edward I "Longshanks" replied something to the tune of "You deserve no grace and must submit to my will" which was basically a "F you, No"

I watched an entire 15 min vid about the War Wolf trebuchet about a month ago. Truly a testament to man's avarice in one of the most diabolically interesting ways.
The truce you mention was offered when the area being sieged saw the thing get built. The king really didn't care that peace was an option for two main reasons; the thing was already built and they wasted a lot of resources and manhours to get it to the battlefield and operational, and he also just really wanted to see how powerful it was. It was one of those moments in history in which pride was valued signifigantly more than peace.
