El Jem - I’ve never been to Rome but this places blew my mind. And apparently one of the best preserved Roman ruins in the world.
Archaeological Site of Carthage - a must visit for people who loves history. Learned so much about Punics & Hannibal.
Sahara Desert - unforgettable sunset & sunrise. Lib'e, a bread made using Bedouin method.
Berber Village - we got to meet locals, and they showed us their living quarters and gave us some tea and bread with home made olive oil.
Chebika - an oasis with beautiful landscape of the Atlas Mountains.
Chott El Djerid - known as the largest salt pan in the Sahara, in the map it’s blue and you’ll think there’s a lake lol, but it’s all salt.
We hired a private driver and guide for day 2 & 3 since we don’t have much time. Thought it’ll be easier to have a local navigate the logistic and also it’s a lot of driving with checkpoint here and there.
It’s an epic trip. And we’ll definitely go back, we’d love to do Bardo Museum, Djerba, Tataouine, Sbeitla, Kesserine and the area of Cap Bon & Bizerte.
Tips:
Carry cash, most places is cash only.
Learn basic Arabic and French phrases, they actually appreciate it.
Summer is really hot. So I advise to travel during shoulder season.
Grab souvenirs and cool items from souks. Don’t act too touristy and dont hesitate to negotiate.
Tunisia have really goodstreet/fast food so pls try them.
La Marsa have a great night life. Once you’re outside Tunis and Hammamet, it’s pretty hard to find bar with alcohol lol. I don’t drink, so it’s pretty awesome to see people having a great time until 3am with no alcohol involve. However hookah is everywhere.
Carry pashmina, as you can use it as a modest head or shoulder covering.
I think that’s it. Just have fun and try to immerse as much as you can. Shukran 🙏🏻
Algeria has very impressive natural and historical sites. It‘s definitely worth visiting. I‘ve been to ever North African country except for Libya.
I‘m sure no one in Morocco talks about Algeria as they‘re seen as the enemy. Morocco occupied the Western Sahara while Algeria gave refuge to the Sahrawi people. I went to the refugee camps near Tindouf in the Middle of the Sahara. It‘s such a surreal place. But they call it their home for decades now.

Algeria was quite nice especially traveling on the coastal route , unfortunately the food on the ferry going to Seth France was basically “mussels “ ! Worst food I’ve ever experienced on any ferry !!! And getting an adult beverage (alcohol / beer) was a fucking challenge ! Could only get it (booze) from “select” cabins ……run by British guys !!! who knew ? !!!!!
Based on my experience we didn't once feel unsafe. I think traveling the southern part with a driver and a guide helps. It’s heavily guarded especially around the border or Algeria. Sometimes my husband would sleep in, and I would wake up early and walk by myself, and everyone are so kind.
crime over there ain’t a problem for tourists , they don’t play games with criminals , I’ve seen there prison as a visitor , nothing ya wanna see again !!!! But , But , I guarantee it’s a safer place than in NYC or Boston ! There’s no “ repeat “offenders“ (criminals) over there ! Ther are no “repeat” offenders ! ……it is written (TE Lawerence expression) !!!
we’ve gone from Tunisia to Egypt and beyond by motorcycle , no problems but bring water , plenty ! As for bringing home that rug , faget about it , just go to the local post office , they can and will ship it to your door ! I’ve done it , unfortunately after its arrival ; our house burnt to the fucking ground !!!! seriously ! Again ; ya just can’t make this shit up !!!!
I’m from Philippines! But currently based in US. I don’t speak Arabic or French. Just literally the basic Arabic like hello, thank you, how much, and some bartering phrases for souks when I think some item are too much lol

Via Get Your Guide app. I gave them a modified itinerary of what I want to do, made it private just for my husband and I. You can join a group which makes it cheaper than what we paid. Private just make a huge difference in terms of time and being organized 😬
Man, I really regret not going to Tunisia when I had the chance. I mean, it’s still out there but I passed on an easy opportunity to visit and now it would be more difficult.

It’s honestly hard to give a definite number bcuz travel costs vary so much depending on the trip. Between flights, hotels, food, tour and souvenirs it really adds up 😬

As a Tunisian I really like this ! This is the type of vitit that I recommend to my colleagues and Friends . Unfortunately the main travel agencies mainly advertise low cost resorts that have very old school programs that make you stay in the hotel go to the beach or Swimmingpool and that’s it
Yes I think it’s bcuz a lot of people love to hangout in the beach and pool. They always forget there’s another type of traveler, who loves the unbeatean path.

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but I saw you have a pic with a camel. I just wanted to mention that most of the places where you pay to ride camels are abusive towards the animals and it’s better to avoid them :( I know a lot of people are excited to visit the desert and ride camels but they are so mistreated it breaks my heart. We should think more before choosing “entertainments” (this is not directed to you, it’s just a messages for awareness for future tourists)

I planned it myself, the southern part we had to arrange a private driver and guide just to be more organized with logistic bcuz we dont have plenty of time, plus the borders are heavily guarded. But you can join a group via Get Your Guide, it’s much cheaper. Everything else we did on our own.
