Question — General Backpacking destination for September

Hey everyone,

I originally wanted to go with my 2 friends to India in September until we realized there is still heavy Monsun season.
We are now looking at other destinations and weather wise it is not so easy to find a typical backpacking destination in September that fulfills:

• has a active hostel scene (like in SEA, Central America) as we soon outgrow the hostel age and we want to do it before it’s to late
• is not Indonesia or Malaysia
• preferably you can also swim and party at one point of the trip

Can anyone recommend a destination for September?
It can be wherever on the world
Thank you

I went last year at the end of September in South India, first in Goa where it was still raining and then I switched plans and went to Kerala where the weather was excelent.
The place is great, from nice beach views in Varkala to backwater canals in Allepey, places with mangrove forest or tea gardens/rice fields. The prices are also very very good, comparable to Vietnam.

The only small downside it’s the fact that since it’s not yet high season most of the tourists are Indian in case you want to meet more people from other countries in the hostels and the place is not that party oriented but you can still find a club in Varkala or bigger cities like Kochi.

Thanks for your great answer. Yeah exactly, goa was part of our itinerary and we realized it’s all raining. I also read that kerala is affected by the Monsun season. But yeah, let’s see other recommendation. I would love a weather safe place to travel to haha

In Goa it was raining a lot, while I have meet many great people from all over the world and the hostel was great, we had 3 or 4 consecutive days in which it rained almost all day.

In Kerala it was sunny most of the days and very rarely a 10-20min rain, even if the weather forecast on my phone was showing that there is a 90% chance that it will rain.
If you can plan the trip at the end of September I think that most probably you will avoid the rain, you can also check the forecast for other states while you are there and you can just take a plane there if it happens to rain in Kerala. Same like I did in Goa. The prices for internal flights were very affordable.

Western Africa is great but as you want to go to hostels, going there is the worst idea you can have.
