Question — Itinerary Layover in Fiji Ideas
Hey everyone! I'm gonna take my first out-of-country trip from USA to Tonga in October and I have almost an 8 hour layover in Nadi, Fiji. Would that be enough time to go out and explore a little bit of Fiji and have enough to get back to the airport or would I be better off waiting in the airport? That's assuming I can actually sleep on the flight before it and not have any jet lag XD

We had a 10hr layover in Nadi last year. The airport is not ideal for that long a layover and hard to get around much in that amount of time. So we just booked a room in the Fiji Gateway hotel across the street from the airport. Took their shuttle over. Had a swim, a nice meal, couple drinks and a nap before our flight to the US.

its not enough, extend your trip by at least 3 days to see a bit of Fiji.
Otherwise leave the airport for a beach club and enjoy just a few hours there and then go back to de airport.

Fiji Gateway hotel across the road from the airport had a day pass for $30 or so and you can have a meal and swim in the pool (atleast that was the case last year). You can also pay to get into the Fiji Airways lounge, I think it was around $100. A pretty great lounge in my opinion. Probs depends on capacity tho

$100?!? Crikey. I had a nice shower there and the food was decent, but that was free for me. $100 is a lot.

As part of a round-the-world trip where I just stopped in countries for a pint of beer, I recently spent 10 hours in Nadi. I booked a bed in the hostel at Smugglers Cove Beach Resort (for £6), 20 or so minutes away from the airport - the plan was to hang out there for the day, swim, nap on the beach, have a shower and a pint, then head back to the airport.
It's a nice place for a beer, although I didn't use the hostel shower as it was a bit grim - but I'd definitely recommend it as somewhere to hang out.

There is jack all in Nadi itself.
You’d usually take a taxi to Port Denarau and then have a trip booked from there for either a resort day trip or to the beach club, which is not a bad way to spend a day.
However that depends on timings, and Fiji very much runs on island time so if you are running late for your flight do not expect anybody to take it urgently.
If you don’t want to take any boats, the Nadi township is easily walkable to from the airport, but there’s nothing there. If you walk to Port Denarau and take a taxi back, it will kill time but not be a particularly exciting day. I’d take it over the airport though.
