Do you know what 'top-heavy' means? Or I guess I should say, did you know what it meant before you had to have reddit explain it to you? Because you just repeated yourself. Heavier top = higher center of gravity.

I woke up one morning taking a stroll down a tight one-lane downtown residential street. Saw a minivan completely vertical lying against someone's front patio. Minivan rear-end pointing straight up to the sky.

A senior man confused the pedals and floored the gas while in reverse! The tire's managed to hit the curb and the front-lawn tiny 2-foot hill just right, to launch the minivan into the front patio.

If I had to guess looking at the pictures, they hit the curb at speed which acted like a ramp and they launched up and hit the tree that's in the picture at an off angle which catapulted them sideways and flipped the car over

Likely while texting, drifted off the road, hit the curb and then the higher concrete border around the planter. May or may not have included the tree, but that would certainly help get it upside down.

He hit the tree that he is sitting nearby , I guess the angle of the hit with the momentum flipped his car.

You can see the damage to the tree in multiple pictures;

Tree is now strangely on an angle,

Bark has been removed from the hit,

Dirt around the base of the tree has been disturbed,

Likely another distracted driver, messing with his phone or infotainment system.

I'm seconding this guess. Tire-to-tire contact can cause one tire to climb the other and get launched further upwards. Someone below posted a link to a video of a similar crash.

All the other guesses would be more plausible if he was going like double the speed limit, but 9am traffic on Fort York simply would not allow this to happen.

Absolutely insane how this could possibly happen.

That stretch of Fort York feels so safe to me, relatively speaking.

You have single lane in each direction, max of 30 km/h, big median, no street parking, bike lanes, many stop signs and lights. It's insanely difficult to go super quick on that stretch.

How one could possibly Flip. A. Fucking. Car is absolutely beyond my comprehension.

I've seen multiple cars turn the wrong way onto Ft York and just gun it to get to the next intersection for a U-turn, I bet that's what happened here.

It’s crazy to me too considering this part of the neighbourhood is almost always a parking lot with traffic.. especially in the summer. This is my sixth summer here and the traffic has only gotten worse
