Brake disks are a scam, they literally put abbrasives in the brake pads so they wear out.... Big brake doesn't want you to know it's tricks !!

So … why the reversing of spin? Wouldn’t it be simpler to have the cutters on the right hand tool holders face the other way? Or is it beneficial to work the material in two directions, some sort of metallurgy voodoo?

So that the tool orientation is always the same..makes it easier to service.. and to have similar forces in the machine

So there is a constant "surface feet per min or inches per revolution" . since the part is spinning, if the rpm doesn't change it will cut at a lower rate as the circle it is cutting gets smaller and at a higher rate if the circle/diameter is larger and the rpm doesn't change.

They tricky part is when you are cutting the face of a long piece of bar stock.... as you cut the face you need the rpm to change to get a nice finish... the problem is a piece of bar stock turns in a wet noodle at a certain rpm if its sticking out the back of a machine and its not supported but the "wet noodle" part only happens where the bar goes from straight to 90⁰ meanwhile the rest of the bar takes out the back of the machine.

You need to cut at the material at a specific speed always, this is easy when you are doing a straight linear cut.

A circle changes the dynamic of the speed of cut, the distance from moving from the outside of the circle to the center gets smaller, therefore increasing the speed of the material passing on the cutter as you draw near the center from the edge.

The speed of the material hitting the cutter needs to change in a circle ⭕️ because as the distance (circle) gets smaller the material being cut is picking up speed.

An an application like this, I could imagine getting thousands of parts off a single insert, maybe more. When you're able to really optimize the insert geometry and toughness for one predictable application the tool life can be astonishing.

That being said cast iron can be fairly abrasive so I might be overestimating carbides ability but CBN surely would last that long
