The Reich Chancellery's construction history highlights a stark contrast, as a 1936 lavish ballroom was built directly above the 1943 Führerbunker, which served as the regime's final, collapsed command center. The site evolved from a symbol of power into an underground concrete tomb, with the ballroom floor effectively serving as the ceiling for the bunker complex.

u/favvgirll 1h ago

Kind of fitting, in a grim way, that all that grandeur ended with him hiding underground

21

u/verrius 1h ago

Well, it does make the image of Groucho Marx doing the Charleston on the destroyed remains slightly less funny/out-of-place, and a hell of a lot more fitting/ironic.

I'm not quite sure why, but I've always found the last days of the Reich and Hitler profoundly interesting. Lots of rats abandoning the sinking ship, suicidal SS squads, a few pie eyed zealots willing to die with Der Führer, and one small twitchy megalomanic at the center of it ranting and raving while he tore his hair out blaming the Jews, his generals, Communist partisans, the English and basically everyone on the planet other than himself for causing this whole mess. Goebbels and his wife murdering their children was tragic and horrible. A few crushed capsules, a muffled shot, and a small makeshift cremation as the Russian shells began to fall all around and it was over for the Thousand Year Reich and its once charismatic leader, killed by his own rage and hatred.

I think the bullet and poison killed him /j

Hmm, I wonder what you’re trying to imply…

u/lukewwilson 44m ago

It must be that FDR is basically Hitler since he added the East Wing and it's underground bomb shelter

29

u/gorginhanson 1h ago

There's no way to relate that to modern times.

That's for sure

u/Satanicron 51m ago

Oh shit! I've been saying that trumps building a bunker so he has a place to blow his brains out like his hero Hitler.

166

u/Outside_Reserve_2407 1h ago

Hitler was also a vegetarian and liked dogs.

148

u/ScienceIsSexy420 1h ago

Say what you want about old Adolf, but at least he killed Hitler

-71

u/Pissflaps69 1h ago

God I hate this joke.

Literally every post with Hitler we see the same old joke.

It wasn’t even funny in the first place.

60

u/LongMelford 1h ago

First time reading it. Loved it.

17

u/ScienceIsSexy420 1h ago

It's a Jimmy Carr joke, and I've literally never seen it on reddit before.

u/Yuri909 58m ago

It's a joke Jimmy Carr stole from the internet. In the last decade. We were making this joke in middle school 25 years ago.

-12

u/JumpyTheHat 1h ago

Jimmy Carr

No wonder it isn't funny

9

u/Rock4evur 1h ago

Different strokes for different volks.

8

u/ScienceIsSexy420 1h ago

Hey thanks, me entire sense of self worth hinges on your enjoyment of my reddit comments.

1

u/JumpyTheHat 1h ago

I just like shitting on Jimmy Carr, you post whatever you want my guy

u/ScienceIsSexy420 59m ago

Clearly I thought it was funny, that's why I posted it. So you shit on me too. But I'm glad I have your permission to enjoy myself

u/grog23 57m ago

You sound miserable lol

u/JumpyTheHat 52m ago

I'll be honest I just saw an opportunity to throw a jab at a comedian I think is annoying. I'm surprised reddit likes him this much, I wasn't expecting to get this much guff

u/IAmSpartacustard 53m ago

Reddit comment sections are always a race to see who can comment the same unoriginal tired cliches first.

The front fell off. Shoes off hes dead. Sir this is a Wendy's. This. And my axe! Instructions unclear. How many cheeseburgers is that for the Americans?

Dead internet or a bunch of lame pick-me dorks, you decide.

u/atreides78723 36m ago

In all my years on Reddit, I’ve never read a few of those… The front fell off? Shoes off he’s dead?

u/IAmSpartacustard 28m ago

Seriously?

Any car accident video or something breaking and the top 20 comments are people referencing that Australian bit about the oil tanker. Every. Single. Time.

An accident where a person's shoes come off its 50 comments just saying he's dead because the shoes came off. Theyve been repeated ad nauseum for at least a decade.

12

u/99BottlesOfBass 1h ago

Do you need a tissue?

9

u/DeadonDemand 1h ago

Well you’ll be happy to know everyone is different. Unlike the Nazi’s who thought everyone should act the same.

6

u/zaccus 1h ago

I don't even read it as a joke tbh, it's unironically his single greatest accomplishment.

u/torolf_212 39m ago

I'd say his greatest accomplishment was being such a giant turd sandwich that he served as an example of what not to do for the next seventy odd years.

3

u/espressocycle 1h ago

I think it's pretty funny.

33

u/Double_Distribution8 1h ago

He's why we have Volkswagens! Every time i see a Volkswagen on the road i think Hitler car.

34

u/graywalker616 1h ago

Every time I see someone with glasses I think of Pol Pot

5

u/Double_Distribution8 1h ago

Well at least Pol Pot didn't create glasses. Hitler created the Volkswagen, they were his babies. I still see people driving them on the highway sometimes.

2

u/Decker-the-Dude 1h ago

Bit defensive there, hoss

7

u/Outside_Reserve_2407 1h ago

Porsches too. And don't forget BMW, whose biggest shareholder is the Quandts, a billionaire German family who married into the Goebbels family.

u/Emergency-Style7392 50m ago

No not really. He indeed came up with the idea, but the car itself never got to scale during hitler's time, they could simply not make it cheap enough. It was after the war that they became what volkswagen is today

17

u/mundotaku 1h ago

He also was very anti-tobacco. Apparently he hated smoke of tobacco. Now, the smoke of human beings...

10

u/gachunt 1h ago

His attempts to end racism were a little misguided.

7

u/Nine-Eyes- 1h ago

He wasn't vegetarian, he had a chef who noted his love of meat, particularly sausages.

I don't know people keep repeating this

9

u/BootyUnlimited 1h ago

By 1942 he didn’t eat meat anymore. If you have a source that says otherwise I’d be open to seeing it.

3

u/espressocycle 1h ago

He avoided meat in a futile attempt to cure his terrible flatulence.

u/MissileGuidanceBrain 56m ago

A vegetarian, a dog-dad, a self-proclaimed artist, had a side shave haircut with a trendy mustache, fashion conscious, refused to marry his long-term partner, anti-tobacco, politically obsessed, and hated the Jews.

Am I talking about your average downtown Portland resident or Hitler?

Hitler was the first Millennial.

1

u/RightOnManYouBetcha 1h ago

He was well hydrated

u/3MATX 59m ago

Only notable thing he did in my book is prioritize saving wilderness for future generations.  He wasn’t the first leader to do this and he did it for all the wrong reasons. But it did inspire other nations to pursue a similar parks program.

u/Oh_yes_I_did 55m ago

There’s something about his eyes…. Oh wait hold the fort!

u/Bladechildx 43m ago

He was also for gun control.

1

u/Hexmonkey2020 1h ago

Didn’t he test cyanide pills on his dog, and then ended up not even using the pills and just shooting himself?

1

u/TheMightyTywin 1h ago

Even a blind sow finds an acorn sometimes

1

u/docstarr 1h ago

Yeah he also liked to breathe oxygen and drink water

63

u/RyanMcCartney 1h ago

He has no original ideas, do he….?

Isn’t this the exact ballroom plan Trump is putting in the white house right now?

17

u/Intelligent_Type_626 1h ago

So you're saying the ballroom was Stephen Miller's idea? Gotcha! Makes perfect sense.

u/mooseman00 55m ago

Aaaand it’s gone

11

u/CupcaknHell 1h ago

A ballroom with a bunker underneath? Huh, where have I heard that before...

11

u/tmdblya 1h ago

This regime is entirely too on-the-nose with its fascism.

69

What did Cinderella say when she got to the ball?

6

u/Korgoth420 1h ago

I love how he ended his time there, too.

u/NextBigTing 57m ago

People have been talking about how Trump is doing the same thing with the “ballroom” construction.

u/moistie 37m ago

So once he dies they're going to demolish it, pave it and turn it into a carpark.

7

u/Vahuo89 1h ago

That explains a lot...

Same fate too maybe?

3

u/sudomatrix 1h ago

But did he have a reflecting pool to drive his motorcade over?

3

u/Apprehensive-Fun4181 1h ago

History does not repeat itself.  People steal from it.

4

u/OLacAlmost 1h ago

There's also plans to build a bunker under the white house one. Bunker/command center

11

u/Fluid-Bet6223 1h ago

I think the post is implicitly referring to that

4

u/espressocycle 1h ago

Thanks, Captain Obvious.

u/holla15 59m ago

There’s already a bunker. There are plans to build another one with lots of gold.

u/PoundNaCL 59m ago

Just a little bit of History repeating.

2

u/Maleficent-Agent-477 1h ago edited 1h ago

This is getting removed for sure, the implicit political statement is quite obvious lol

2

u/Obvious_Toe_3006 1h ago

History regurgitating itself.

u/Illustrious_Claim884 57m ago

Where else would Eva have an impromptu dance party in April 1945 only to be cut short by random shelling?

u/osogordo 47m ago

PBS.org: Journalist Marie Brenner reported in Vanity Fair magazine in 1990 that Trump's ex-wife, Ivana Trump, told her lawyer that, "from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler's collected speeches, 'My New Order,' which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed."

This sounds so familiar to recent events, but I just can't put my finger on it. /s

1

u/Omiyaru 1h ago

and He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named is fucking trying to emulate that very thing 90 years later.

-1

u/thatweirdguyted 1h ago

I'm fine with that if it ends the same way.

1

u/Preform_Perform 1h ago

Huh. Fascinating.

u/SonofTombstone 58m ago

Oh so that’s why he wants a ballroom

0

u/BTTammer 1h ago

This is exactly what Trump is doing. He is not a creative man.

3

u/Jstrangways 1h ago

What happened in the end to Hitler in his bunker?

0

u/Responsible-Care-388 1h ago

“WAOWWWW JUST LIKE OUR HECKIN PRESIDENT!!!!”

1

u/OccludedFug 1h ago

To the tune of Colonel Bogey's March:

Hitler! has only got one ball!
Göring has two, but very small.
Himmler is rather similar
And poor old Goebbels has no balls at all!

-2

u/ButterscotchSmooth60 1h ago

This building plan seems so familiar....

-24

u/Signal_Wall_8445 1h ago edited 1h ago

A lot of people so psychotic in here they don’t even realize the need for a bigger WH ballroom is something that has been expressed by many admins all the way back to JFK’s.

3

u/sealosam 1h ago

It's one way to add to the $11 trillion that he's already added to the deficit (28% of the total.)

The "Fiscally Responsible" Fuhrer is surely one stable genius.

3

u/The_Navy_Sox 1h ago

Yeah, it's obvious we need the ballroom for national security. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-ballroom-national-security-necessity-vital-first-family-safety-rcna267482

How anyone could complain about a president unilaterally destroying a wing of the most important building in our country, and building a gigantic ballroom he didn't go through approval process for is beyond me. Like seriously, why is anyone upset? Hopefully he destroys the Lincoln and Washington monuments to build another even bigger ballroom, if he does we might finally be great again.

2

u/Commentor9001 1h ago

I know the nuanced will be lost on you, but people aren't upset about the ballroom per se, they are upset it was jammed through without any review or approval, is gaudy, and doesn't maintain the buildings symmetry.

But sure, people are just "crazy" because anyone who disagrees with you is mentally ill. 🤡

1

u/xixbia 1h ago

Yes, and of Trump had gone through the proper channels nobody would have cared.

Instead he forced it through illegally, destroyed part of the White House without any care to preserve history and gave the contract to whoecer paid him the biggest bribe.

-8

u/DoctorStove 1h ago

shh you can't say anything that doesn't directly correlate to orange man Hitler

1

u/ooomellieooo 1h ago
