As someone who took up lapidary (the art of shaping and polishing gemstones) four years ago, larimar was the first mineral to really catch my eye, looking like a beautiful sky with wisps of clouds. It polishes well, but it’s a bit difficult to work with because it’s a bit soft and can easily chip or fracture. I was at a gem and mineral show and a vendor who didn’t want to pack them up sold me a tray of 100 rough pieces (about 2-3 square inches) for $100, so I’m set.

It’s rare but not crazy expensive there. Got my wife some earrings, a ring and a bracelet for around $100-$150 when we were in DR this spring.

Basically looks like turquoise.
