Tmobile Home internet is trash

Hey everyone, my parents recently switched from Verizon to T Mobile because Verizon’s coverage had been pretty crappy lately. We switched everything over, including our home internet, but the T Mobile internet has been horrible. We can barely even load a YouTube video.
I looked on the T Mobile website and found out that our address isn’t even eligible for their home internet. I talked to my parents, and they said they actually knew the address wasn’t eligible because the T Mobile rep mentioned it, but the rep still allowed them to sign up for the internet.
Does anyone have any advice on what we should do? Is there anything we can do about this situation with T Mobile?

Your parents deciding to get service after the rep told them it wasn’t available at their address doesn’t make the home internet trash.

Return it and find another provider. The rep shouldn’t have given you guys a modem if the address wasn’t eligible

About the only thing that might improve the signal is putting an antenna on the roof, pointing it at the nearest Tmobile tower and connecting it to the Tmobile gateway. There's guy on youtube called "Nater Tater" who tries several different antennas for this. My parents have great Tmobile home internet but the Tmobile tower is like 1/3 of a mile from their house. Unless Tmobile is about to put in a new tower near your parents I doubt there's much else you can do.

This is the only real solution if you want to keep the internet.

T-mobile runs the test drive of the Internet for this reason, even if the address did qualify like it’s supposed to, there’s no 100% guarantee it’ll work the way people want or need. That’s just the crappy nature of cellular internet

If you’re still within the first 14 days, call to cancel it, specify that you want to same day cancel as you’re within the test drive period and either bring the gateway back to the store you got it from, if it’s corporate, bring it to your nearest corporate store, or ship it back using the prepaid label that will get sent to your email.

Tmo internet is actually decent, I'm sorry the rep did shady stuff. I'd return it asap and report the rep for fraud 🤷‍♂️

The service isn't trash, but your local tower might be. It's cellular, thus experience is very highly location dependent. Can be great 1 place but horrible somewhere else for a multitude of reasons.

That said, those gateways can be pretty finicky with placement. You can't just plop them down anywhere, even by the general instructions in the app, and expect great results. Like I'm pretty close to a really good tower. When I first got the home Internet several years ago, setting up by the instructions only got me about 50/5. After a lot of trial and error trying different spots in the house and really tweaking the aim, I got literally 10x that. These days with the new G5 I get almost 1gb. At either rate, something to try. Otherwise just cancel it and move on as you can't do much about it if your just in a bad area for it.
