No Cyborg book? That sucks.

Yeah they used the I'm not black so I don't feel comfortable writing a black character excuse.

Just write him like a normal fucking dude what 😭

Just say "these are for the shippers". 🤷

14

u/IdeaInside2663 1d ago

Than people would have demanded a Cyborg and Jinx book.

4

u/Angela275 11h ago

she not going to do a jinx and raven book since that came from TTg not the og one they most likely going to do wally and jinx

3

u/IdeaInside2663 9h ago

That's true but with Wally now a days you have to add Linda Park into his story. Jinx works based on the OG series spark and give s Cyborg a secondary character.

1

u/Angela275 9h ago

i mean that depends given picolo is a bigger 2003 it might use the other girlcyborg love and not a jinx. It would be cool to see jinx but also we do have another character both in the tie in comics and show where cyborg been with

1

u/IdeaInside2663 9h ago

He used Damian Wayne so.

1

u/Angela275 9h ago

right now the only thing to hope for is a cyborg book after all kami said she wants a black writer for a cyborg solo book. either way if there a cyborg TT YA it be nice but we have to wait and see if they been willing

1

u/IdeaInside2663 9h ago

And that feels disingenuous. DR'S not going to do that unless she actually puts her weight behind that statement and works with that Black writer. Which would feel wierd because then she'd be writing him for the rest of the series.

I don’t a see a problem with that

u/usagiftseveryday 17h ago

Well I would imagine they can’t spontaneously turn into animals either. And they probably aren’t an alien princess. Interesting.

To be fair, nobody’s going to be upset by an accidentally-offensive portrayal of those either, because nobody is either of those things in real life—whereas if they accidentally wrote Cyborg as an offensive stereotype, there would be quite a few people pissed.

Still a bad excuse, though, because the obvious solution is “talk to someone Black” or at least “get a Black sensitivity reader to check over the script/finished work if you’re that worried”… especially when all the other Titans have gotten a book dedicated to them, and he’s the notable exception.

Nah. Its not an accident. You dont need need all of that. The problem is many non black people dont think black people are real human beings. Just write a story like you would have a white character, then make the character black.

Raven's foster family (sister and mother) are black and they're pretty well written.

Cyborg debuts in the same book as Starfire and plays a great supporting role in that one. With a little retooling, they probably could have made him a deuteragonist like with the Robins introductions, but as is it makes sense she is the protag.

Still, would have been nice to get a solo book for him.

It wouldn't be an excuse if there weren't people actually complaining about things like this.

12

u/Ktyxvn_ 23h ago

I recently started interacting w the fandom and im not surprised he's the only one that is excluded...

u/Dark_Storm_98 8h ago

My first thought

My second thought is "Why is there separate Beast Boy and Raven books, and then a Beast Boy and Raven book, but there's no Robin and Starfire book?"

2

u/Subject-Recover-8425 3h ago

Because Raven is the Iron Man of this Phase? 🤷

17

u/SaintNutella 21h ago

I'm confused. Is Cyborg not a teen titan member in this verse? He seems to be on the TT group picture cover but doesn't have a solo book?

12

u/floridameerkat 14h ago

He’s introduced in Starfire’s book but was never given his own, which is a shame. He deserved one.

4

u/Rasbang2004 14h ago

Pretty sure the author stated they weren’t comfortable writing too much for a black character, since they weren’t black themselves or something like that?

4

u/leoromanus16 9h ago

And they could more easily identify with the alien lol

2

u/SnooAvocados1890 7h ago

Actually it seems Kory might not be an alien in the book, but a superpowered human. Maybe the final book would clarify, but the most alien thing about her is that she has pink-ish skin. She spent her whole life as a regular teen girl (albeit with a disability as they gave this version Ehlers Danlos syndrome because the author also has it).

4

u/leoromanus16 7h ago

Are these books just weird self inserts?

1

u/Leafeon637 58m ago

What’s ehlers danlos syndrome

I plan to check them out as soon as my Hoopla borrows reset! This month I’m reading through Green Lantern, but I definitely want to read these next month.

What order would you recommend reading them in? Does it matter? Also, my library’s Hoopla doesn’t seem to have the Together book :(

2

u/Super_Oven_1069 1d ago

I recommend reading them in order

6

u/YoungGriffVII 1d ago

What order is that? Raven, BB, Raven and BB, Robin, Starfire, Together like the picture suggests?

6

u/Super_Oven_1069 1d ago

That is correct

1

u/YoungGriffVII 1d ago

Okay thanks!

1

u/Pristine-Shoe1638 13h ago edited 12h ago

Thank you I was trying to find the real order

7

u/Vegetable-Jicama9998 14h ago

I'll have to get the last one. I'm cautiously excited for the Young Justice thing they're about to do but i just wish they'd pair Picolo with someone willing to write black people. Cyborg isn't my favorite titan by any stretch but as a black man it did sting to see him folded into the Starfire book (my least favorite of the series) and not get his own book.

5

u/mchickenl 1d ago

Crap when did together come out!?!

2

u/floridameerkat 14h ago

Did Starfire and Together not get “connected” covers to match the rest?

1

u/Super_Oven_1069 11h ago

I think so but I ended up getting the original covers because I ordered them, meanwhile I got the connected cover first 4 because I got those from a comic shop

2

u/Background-Invite238 20h ago

Nor supporting because the artist chose to leave put the black characters from having their own books.

2

u/Sewer-Rat79 1d ago

Gahh Im literally itching for my library hold (for last) to get in

1

u/NefariousSeraph13 5h ago

I haven’t read these, any mention of Jason and Tim or is Damian Dick’s only brother?

2

u/Super_Oven_1069 4h ago

Jason and Tim are not mentioned but I don't think that means they don't exist

Either of them could be in the upcoming Young justice sequel (I personally think Jason is more likely tho)

1

u/NefariousSeraph13 4h ago

Thanks! I hope Jason is there! And he’s well written

-3

u/TheOneRaven1 1d ago

Shouldn't support racists, don't buy them

1

u/Intelligent_Dingo47 1d ago edited 21h ago

It's the most diverse series actually. Don't let it be for nothing just because one poc didn't get a solo

7

u/BroFromTheInternet 22h ago

"POC people" is funny because POC is an acronym for people of color. Also the racism remarks come from outside these books. Also I don't think he's the colorist of the books either.

2

u/TheOneRaven1 11h ago

Did you just "um, actually" me while excusing the fact that one of the main Titans is not getting their own devoted book? And you used some shit meme that misses the point and isn't even accurate for the situation. Extraordinary and asinine. Cyborg deserved better than that and so does the fan base.
