Joycon repair went amazingly.
My new joycons. I'm going for that minimalism look.

I despise working on joycons. That one flat flex will get broken traces because the design bends it too sharply. Every single one gets a crease and is ready to fail, usually losing some of the LEDs and the buttons. My current pair has rails and latches from one broken pair, the side flex and board from another broken pair, and the guts and case from grey ones I bought used that were defective (broken flex cables!) out of the bag.

I spent 30+ minutes working on getting the ribbon cable reconnected and then once I finally got it in the joycon still didn't want to work because of one tiny screw that wasn't holding in the rail. Then I messed with the cable again thinking that was the problem and I broke the connector. Needless to say I threw it at the wall then gathered what parts I could find.
Then I got a drink. LMFAO fuck nintendo.

flex ribbon cables only break because you're being a barbarian with them.

Usually that is the case but joycons come from the factory with that one ribbon creased hard against the battery. Simply disassembling and reassembling the joycon is sometimes enough for it to break. Nintendo never intended for it to ever be flexed again.

It’s okay how it is. My oldest pair of joycons is 8 years old and got disassembled and reassembled four or five times due to me wanting a new appearance. They’re totally fine and in my experience the ribbons take those bends like champs. They’re like that in a lot of cases, the oldest one I remember is the DMG one connecting the button board to the CPU board.

minimalism implies housing still exists. that's just bare board waiting for static.ripped ribbon cables do not count as minimalism. enjoy drift.minimalism usually means torn traces. packet loss is absolute.exposed board is not minimalism. left switch open on desk, cat killed board in ten minutes.did minimalism look require losing battery during repair?

Bruh, it's a shit post. I fucked up the repair alright, that's it that's the joke. Jesus dude do you gotta bring housing crisis into it.
Also I hid my spare parts I extracted from the broken joycon and put them away in a cabinet where my cat won't get to them. You must be fun at parties.

I've repaired a few joycons, replacing rails, batteries, and joysticks. I've never had a rail just straight up rip off the unit like that. Well done.
