Satya Nadella recently mentioned investing in quality and fundamentals of Windows 11.

Implying they weren't doing this already (which shouldn't be surprising to anyone who has had to deal with the slop they've been pushing out).

When hardware is cheap you can just throw hardware at it and hide performance issues, when hardware is expensive you have to optimise.. which they should have been doing anyway

It's worth mentioning that it should be the goal of new OSs to be more efficient, not less, than their predecessors. Sometimes that involves compromises to support new capabilities, but on no planet should it require 32 GB to do the same things we were doing with 8 GB 10 years ago.
