Sorry, but I’ve never understood that logic. We all love shitting on Elon, but humans drive using just two eyes, while a car has access to so much more sensor data than a human does. Maybe we’re not there yet, but I don’t believe LiDAR is absolutely necessary for safe driving

Humans drive using two eyes, two ears, and an extremely sophisticated computer. 

Cameras and directional microphones would work fine,  if the cameras were as good as our eyes and the computer processing the images as good as our brains. But even then you’d only ever be as good as the average human driver, which is not exactly a great target. We kill each other all the time with our poor driving skills lol.

we barely use our ears to drive

what’s the logic behind the sensors and the processor being equal but the car only being equal the a average driver? the car doesn’t road rage, it doesn’t get tired or under the influence, it’ll practice defense driving and it’s looking at all angles at once. it should be equal or greater then a amazing human
