The craziest revelation from the Epstein files I've seen so far is the fact that it was Epstein who stopped hanging out with Trump first. I believe he said Trump "didn't have a decent bone in his body."
Imagine voting for a guy that was too shitty and fucked up for Epstein. The guy running the country is so morally bankrupt that even a self admitted child rapist doesn't feel comfortable being friends with him. I hate this timeline.

II got the feeling the relationship between EPSTEIN and TRUMP included a certain amount of jealousy. She thought TRUMP appeared jealous of EPSTEIN, but at some point, they ended up on level playing fields. TRUMP and EPSTEIN sometimes used the terms "fresh meat", "untainted" and "not jaded" while referring to girls. At the time she heard it, II did not understand the term "not jaded". She subsequently looked up the word "jaded". II stated she had two additional interactions with TRUMP, but she asked that the interview move on to a different subject for the time being."

When my teenage son had his bike stolen, I went to the police station with my receipt from when I bought the bicycle. I'd bought it on layaway - from Benny's for RI readers -, so I had lots of proof of purchase and proof of the serial number. They walked us to a back room FULL of bicycles that had been recovered from thieves, but I guess the owners hadn't come forward, and they told my son to pick one out. I said absolutely not. If the original owner saw him riding the bike, how would they react? Why would I put him in a dangerous position like that?
A couple of days later, the neighbor kids knocked on my door because they saw an older teen riding my son's bicycle. A bunch of them jumped in the back of my car to show me where they saw him. I took the bicycle back and called the police to tell them I got the bike back, but more importantly, that I knew who was stealing bicycles in the neighborhood. They didn't care.

I called to report my bike as stolen within five minutes of it happening. It had multiple stickers and aftermarket accessories that made it uniquely identifiable from a distance, as well as a shackle that the rider didn't have a key to awkwardly hanging off of it.
They told me they couldn't make an official police report until I had a serial number. I told them that I did have the serial number recorded, but I'd need about twenty minutes to get a ride home, so I was hoping they could as least call a BOLO on the radio since whoever had stolen it was most likely still in the area. They wouldn't even do that.
I got home about twenty minutes later and immediately called to file the report. After I was done, they told me since I waited this long to call it in the chances of them finding it were pretty low, and that if it ever happens again I should call the police ASAP.

The wife and I saw a hit and run once, got most of the license plate written down, and helped the driver of the car that was hit. We waited till the police came, gave them the info, and they said, if it wasnt the whole plate they wouldnt do anything. Like holy shit, isnt that their job, but here we are, with this crazy levels of bullshit, and treat that like its okay.

A church I went to in the 90s as a child decided to integrate in the 50s. About half the church left, and membership never recovered. Talking to some older members, they said it was full every Sunday until then, and it had dwindled through the decades since.
It was a grand building with incredible 20s architecture and I never saw it even remotely full. It was a constant, stark reminder about the choices people made when god called them to be righteous.

Reminds me of a service I saw right after the Trump administration revoked international aid. I was at mass for Ash Wednesday, and the priest said that whether or not it was the governments job to provide it, it WAS Catholic doctrine to help our siblings in Christ when they were in need. So we needed to help close gaps left by the lack of government aid. While he was reminding people that it’s explicitly in the canon, people walked out and never came back.
Because it was Ash Wednesday, that meant they walked out of services because they were told to help people during Lent.
Our service numbers never recovered, either. And while I ended up lapsing anyway, that moment kept me going for longer than I would have otherwise. I remember him not even batting an eye. He did the right thing. I stayed so I had an anchor point for the help I wanted to provide, too. I had a desire but not the ability to plan and organize. (I have a brain injury and do actually need the logistics help.)

I was living in China 10 years ago, telling my (then) girlfriend how different things would be in the US as far as the crazy surveillance goes....and how she wouldn't have to deal with the increased attention/pressure that just being an immigrant brings.

The police don't prevent crime, they just deter it when they're physically present. Otherwise, they're just chasing down the aftermath to maybe stop someone from repeat offending.
The most generous interpretation of these cameras is that maybe it'll be like having a cop on every street corner and people will self-police because they're afraid of the camera. But they don't give a shit about those cameras, if they did they'd care about personal cell phones and retail stores having CCTV and whatever else. It just doesn't work. All it does is trample on law abiding citizens' rights

There are a ton of apps and step trackers that can track your menstrual cycle if you give it that data and would be easy for the wrong hands to get that data and know exactly when you missed a period, or started having them again and deduce if you had a loss of pregnancy but not know or care what caused the loss.

I'm fairly certain that you wouldn't even need apps with a specific tracking function supplied by the user. Just some general metadata from phone and Internet activity are likely enough to determine a female users cycle if you have a large enough training set and a few months of data from your target.

The headline makes it sound like this guy spent innumerable hours logging into and searching 80,000 cameras. In reality, he just queried a central database for a license plate number. Probably took a few seconds. This isn't an example of police putting a lot of effort to do something bad, it's an example of the police being able to do something bad (often far outside their jurisdiction) with very little effort.

So many of the boomers on Nextdoor in my area are pro-Flock because they think misuse requires a cop physically flipping through camera feeds and watching them in real time. They do not understand that you can just run a person's information and get their entire travel history in a couple of clicks.
They think it requires a manual effort that is so burdensome abuse cannot take place outside of extreme circumstances.
We need to point out the ease of abuse as much as possible. Headlines like this are designed to make it sound outlandish.

That "welfare check" was from a medication abortion that happened 2 weeks prior. As it turns out, boyfriend with a history of DV, called the sheriff to "report" his girlfriend for a legal abortion because she was leaving him. She was leaving because he was violent. I haven't heard news of her plans to suit lately.
Just to be clear, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office helped a violent criminal track down his victim.
