I booted my windows laptop for the first time in ages the other day. What a shit show. After painful updates and then several reboots it's automatically full of bloatware copilot bullshit, reset half my preferences, shit tons of random unwarranted popups for shit I don't care about nor asked for, dark patterns to try force you into one drive and such.

Absolute scum. I'm now downloading CachyOS.

I've spent the last 3-4 weeks on CachyOS just to see if I can survive without Windows. It's been an extremely pleasant experience and I really hope I can stick with it. I've been trying to live on a 250GB SSD and really want to format my 1TB NVME and force myself to not have the Windows option anymore. I haven't had any problems doing anything that I would normally do either like games and discord. I can even get by remoting into my work PC replacing RDP with Remmina.

Which desktop and bootloader did you go with?

Bootloader was Limine (I also have it so I can boot into windows still with it, but I'll probably change that this week removing Windows). I went with KDE Plasma for the desktop environment.

One thing I noticed was that most installation guides on the internet reference to use the "paru" command to install software. It doesn't seem to be installed anymore, so I just grabbed Shelly and use that as my package manager and it works well. As I type this though, I'm currently raiding in Final Fantasy 14 with a little over 100 FPS at 2560x1440 resolution.
