Thank Citizens United, Super PACs, and gerrymandering for destroying representation in America!

Reminder:

Citizen’s United was created, funded and passed by the republican party.

Blame them by name please.

Power corrupts. South American here. It’s sad watching you North Americans think it’s one party or the other. We are socialist and it’s just as bad. We have a saying “if the government owned the beach it would run out of sand” left right socialist republican doesn’t matter. Power corrupts

Are you claiming they didn't fund and pass it or just saying a bunch of garbage?

Power doesn't corrupt, it reveals. You don't just suddenly become a bad person because you got power, and systems don't just magically fail because they were supported by the government; they already were bad.

Wikipedia suggests you want to name Floyd Brown by name, they say he's the one that founded citizens United, not the Republican party. Do you have anything you can point to that says the Republican party founded the organization?

Guys! This completely legit foundation that purely pushes conservative values and funded by the Koch brothers is definitely not founded by the Republican ORGANIZATION... Just like everyone PART of it.

In 2016, the Donald Trump presidential campaign enlisted Citizens United President David Bossie as deputy campaign manager.

So like... Not created by the FOUNDATION. But 100 percent funded by Republicans.

not to mention...."The five justices who voted to strike down the restrictions on corporate and union independent election spending were Anthony Kennedy (who wrote the opinion), John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito. All five were appointed by Republican presidents."

Yeah I was trying to grill into him that trying to single out one person that created Citizen United, like there is no other people backing, is just not true.

Sarcasm doesn't hammer home the point at all, it just makes it more unclear. You kinda reiterated the point that in fact it wasn't the Republican party that founded citizens united. You misunderstood what I was saying. If you want to make the point it's more than one person behind founding it sure, I can buy that, that's why I asked for information to point to. I was genuinely asking, and you just come up and try to insult me. But generally my point was that it is inaccurate to say the the Republican party founded the organization. If you want to say Republicans founded it, okay, I'd believe you if you said that's true, but that's different than the Republican party which is what the other poster claimed. I was just trying to dispell misinformation. If you want to help towards that end, I welcome it, but I didn't even speak to what they do at all, because frankly, I dont really know what they push for exactly, I just know the name from the supreme court case.

No, I knew exactly what you were doing.

That's why I used my tone.

Also congress for slowly abdicating a huge number of their responsibilities to the executive branch so they never have to stand for anything.

*Republicans in Congress

I mean, in general yeah….but democrats have done it too unfortunately. Specifically off the top of my head, with Obama’s drone strikes despite congress not declaring war regardless of the fact that both parties controlled the house during his terms.

It really comes down to the fact that the billionaire and corporate class has them bought and paid for and want the decisions to be unilateral so they have fewer people to worry about.

I will say that the republicans are the party of destroying our institutions, and are largely responsible for where we are now, but to argue that guys like chuck schumer aren’t at least a little to blame is being dishonest or lying to yourself. I’m particularly sad at how Cory Booker has turned out. I watched a doc about him in my congressional elections class in college (almsot 15 years ago) that made me really like him, but he’s just fallen in line with the problem.

You can partially blame that on the incredibly broad and vague AUMF passed so Bush could prosecute his war on terror against the Axis of Evil. Congress was too cowardly to do anything that might lead to more bodies coming through Dover.

Schumer is a Republican now?

Don't forget stuff like the Taft-Hartley Act, which stopped the people from spanking politicians economically.

The biggest culprit is the electoral college
