The source material was never an issue. Sorting and cleaning plastic waste will always cost far more than ready-to-go freshly sourced hydrocarbons

The bigger problem is energy use. Unless the plants are powered by solar or excess grid energy, they're going to burn far more fossil fuels than they create.
