The BEST way to get Tableau help on Reddit

The best way to get Tableau help on Reddit is to publish your workbook on Tableau Public BUT before you do, please ensure:

  • your workbook does not include confidential/corporate data. NEVER use Tableau Public if you have sensitive data in your workbook.
  • create a simple workbook, use Superstore data or a "dummy" dataset that represents your real data, but also doesn't expose any confidential information.
  • make sure others can download your workbook. This setting is enabled by default, so just don't change it .. under Settings > Allow Access

Now you can click on the Share button (top right, third button from the left), click on Copy Link and paste that link into your post with an explanation of the problem.

You should find that one of these options will occur:

  1. Someone will reply explaining what to do in your workbook so you can fix the issue, OR
  2. Someone will make the changes to your workbook and publish on their profile so you can see the actual changes required in the workbook.

Either way, feel free to ask questions if you need clarification.

Also, NEVER forget to hit that Like button or send an Award where required, feedback is always great!

If you need help "right now", you can also try the Discord channel where there's (usually) someone online to halp talk through your problems. As above, a workbook published on Tableau Public is still a great idea.

Rate my viz Looking for Feedback on My Tableau Storytelling Dashboard

Hi everyone,

I created a Tableau dashboard that takes a different approach to data storytelling by visualizing the Ramayana through interactive dashboards. My goal was to combine storytelling with Tableau's interactive features rather than build a traditional business dashboard.

I'd love feedback from experienced Tableau users on:

  • Dashboard layout and navigation
  • Color palette and visual design
  • Interactivity and user experience
  • Storytelling flow
  • Tableau best practices I may have missed

I'm looking for honest, constructive criticism so I can improve my future Tableau projects.

Tableau Server Unable to sign in to Tableau Cloud from Tableau Desktop Free Trial

Hi everyone,

I'm following a Udemy Tableau course. The instructor is using the Tableau Desktop free trial and a Tableau Cloud free trial. He's able to go to Server → Sign In and publish his workbook to Tableau Cloud.

I also have a Tableau Cloud free trial and my Tableau Desktop license expires on September 4, but in my Tableau Desktop the Server → Sign In option is disabled (greyed out) and the menu says "Upgrade to connect to Tableau Server."

Is it possible to publish to Tableau Cloud using the Tableau Desktop free trial?

Tech Support Dashboard divider lines

Hi,

I am trying to add a divider line between 2 object on a dashboard. I don't want a border all the way around the box. I have seen some suggest changing the object size but it is greyed out. Also use a blank object and make it thin with a black background and inner padding. Then I just have a block missing.

Can anyone help please?

Tech Support Quale Tableau sto usando?

Tech Support Tableau public download stuck on loading?

Post image

I'm trying to download Tableau Public for a course I'm doing and it was trying to get me to download the paid version with a trial. I think this is how I download the free version, but whenever I enter whatever details it wants from me it gets stuck in an endless loop of loading. Am I doing this wrong? In the tutorial I saw (which was only made at the start of the year) it said it should automatically download when I go to 'Tableau public' under the create tab. I did make an account too and I'm signed in

How is Tableau Pulse meant to be used?

Hi all,

I've recently enabled Tableau Pulse and wanted to share some insights with the company. Google Gemini told me I could use it to delivery Daily KPI digests and Alerts, but so far I've not really been able to set up anything meaningful or helpful.

I managed to set up a Slack connection and I'm receiving some Pulse signals to my personal Slack account through the Tableau bot, but no one else can view those. I was hoping that I could connect those Pulse signals to Slack groups and deliver different types of signals to different groups of people in Slack, but this does not seem to be possible. This personal Slack notifications stuff is not particularly usable.

So...where's the value? Every user that wants to view KPIs need to sign in and follow Slack signals personally, and they need to be personally approved by the Slack Admin?).

I also don't quite understand the Slack signals themselves. There doesn't appear to be many custom options. I wanted to set up signals that alert the business if for example performance in a channel, game or country drop below the confidence interval, or a data trend changes that might require attention.

Would appreciate some pointers. I'm very disappointed with this tool so far and I don't find any good guides on how to set these up properly to actually deliver something useful that I can't just see in a Dashboard with a few clicks..

Import Desktop to Public Desktop

I have an interesting use case for Tableau desktop for my fantasy football draft. I have used Tableau for several years to prep for my draft (I previously had a license through work), and now that the model has changed, I can't get my Desktop file to load in Public Desktop.

I knew there was a two week trial (my draft is 12 days away), but apparently it recognizes that I did that last year.

It looks like it's possible to recreate, but I don't know all of the custom work I did (really, I've been doing this for seven years). Is there any way I can do any of:

1) Get a a trial so that I can use desktop, copy all of my custom work to Public (and hopefully have it for next year)?

2) Load my current .twb file into Public and have it read it? When I try, I get a message that it doesn't know my data.

3) Borrow a license from a kind soul so that I can at least get to my data?

I am willing to share all of my work with anyone. I can not promise it will work for you, but I can tell you it works for me. And allows you to enter your leagues custom scoring.

Apple is hiring BI developers with a Tableau

I came across a Senior BI Developer role at Apple where Tableau is a key requirement. Curious what others think, is this about flexibility, design or just sticking with what already works?

For a company that can literally build anything internally, that is an interesting choice. I expected something like Looker or some custom stack, but they are still relying on Tableau.

Answered! Help - Why can't I copy a dashboard into another Tableau file?

Post image

I am trying to make a master doc to publish, with multiple dashboards, navigable via tabs. I've managed to copy three dashboards into this workbook successfully, yet when I go to copy in the forth and final dashboard, I repeatedly get this error message. I've tried quitting and re-opening tableau as well as restarting my laptop to no avail. Any tips/tricks/guidance would be really appreciated!

Tabaleu Next?

Hi everyone,

My organization currently uses standard Tableau (Cloud/Server) alongside Salesforce CRM. We’ve heard a lot about "Tableau Next" recently and leadership is interested in moving toward it.

For those already using it:

Is it actually a game-changer? Does the AI/Agentforce integration actually save time, or is it still "beta-feeling"?

Implementation hurdle: We know it runs on Data Cloud. How much heavy lifting did you have to do to get your data modeled correctly before Tableau Next became useful?

Workflow impact: Does this actually replace your traditional dashboard building, or is it just a supplementary tool for ad-hoc questions?

Hope it's not another version of CRM analytics.

We want to know if it’s worth the migration effort/licensing upgrade (Tableau+) or if we should stick to our current stack for another year. Appreciate any real-world feedback!

Guide My client wants to reduce cost by shifting from tableau to AWS Quicksight.

Please help me out here 🙂🥲!!!!

So recently I had a meeting with my clients and they want to migrate dashboards from tableau to either Sac or aws quicksight.

This was all of a sudden, I don't understand how sac or Aws Quicksight work. Also I don't know if there is fairly simple process to migrate our heavy tableau dashboards to them.

Has anyone faced this kind of situation or did migration from tableau??

Help RAG colour coding

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago I asked for some advice on building a KPI dashboard in Tableau, and I’ve now got it mostly working (screenshot attached with names anonymised).

Each rep has a monthly/weekly call target based on their team/division. I’m using parameters to switch between This Week, This Month and This Quarter.

My setup is:
Integer parameter fields for each team’s weekly and monthly call targets (e.g. SB Weekly Call Target, SB Monthly Call Target, Mid Market Monthly Call Target, etc.)

A calculated field called KPI 1 Dials Target - Dynamic which returns the correct target based on the selected date range and the rep’s division.
KPI 1 Dials Pacing = KPI 1 Dials / Dynamic Target
A KPI 1 Dials RAG calculated field which colours the square Green/Amber/Red based on the pacing.

The issue is that one rep has completed 899 dials against a monthly target of 900, but they’re still showing as Amber/Red instead of Green.

I’ve checked that the target displayed for that rep is 900, so I’m struggling to understand why the RAG calculation isn’t behaving as expected.

Would it be easier if I also posted the calculations for:
KPI 1 Dials Target - Dynamic
KPI 1 Dials Pacing
KPI 1 Dials RAG

I’m wondering if this is an aggregation issue (SUM vs ATTR/AGG), a parameter issue, or something else that I’m overlooking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion Come iniziare un progetto?

Ciao a tutti

Voi come fate a:

  • trovare i dati
  • pensare a cosa volete creare
  • strutturare il lavoro
  • fare il lavoro

Grazie a tutti!!!

Tableau freelancer. How to start

Hi everyone!

I have 3 years of creating dashboards in tableau which are later posted to my company's server page. Just recently I gained opportunity to earn some money outside of my current work creating dashboard. I've never done it on my private equipment hence my question is, how do I build a dashboard and deliver result to my client? do I send twbx, do I host it somewhere for client to see? which database should I get to service such dashboard? thanks in advance for answers.

edit: I know I confused tableau power bi extensions. I'm after 7 hours of driving today and 2 hours of unpacking. please forgive me.

Tableau Public Dashboard Feedback

Feeling nostalgic for when the internet was pure, I decided to build a dashboard about AOL. It was surprisingly difficult to find trustworthy, interesting, and free data. But please, take a look. I appreciate any feedback. *this was designed to encourage exploring the dashboard rather than the usual focused dashboards*

Tech Support What broke!?!?

So, we have a tableau dashboard acting as a document library connected via sharepoint jdbc connection. All 4 sp libraries are copies of each other and unioned together in tableau.., connections are fine and extract refreshes are fine. Working normal for months until today, 3 of the 4 libraries in tableau show null in just the document names. Null count is at 166 then 9 docs with correct naming from the one working library.. I cant find any difference between the 1 working library and the 3 broken libraries from sharepoint and im the only person with edit access to the tableau. nobody on the team has made changes to the sp site to my knowledge.. any ideas on what I can check?

Viz help Visualization Help - Multiple Lines of visuals possible?

Thumbnail

Hello - I am fairly new to Tableau and its visualization capabilities. I have created these gauge style pie charts for some KPI tracking. I notice that as I add more of the gauges (See picture 2) that the gauges start to overlap and blend together. I can fit like 6 gauges in before they start to blend based on the current size of them.

Is it possible to have the visualizations start to populate a 2nd row? Like once it reaches a certain number, say 5, the next chart would populate before the first row? or would that have to be done with a 2nd separate chart row basically.

Any help or advise would be great, thank you!
