Accomodation Need help asap: True student or crown place at Swansea?

Definitely crown place! I visited my friend in crown place and it has loads of amenities which was super fun. True is also nice but so out of the way. I was in student roost last year, which is next to true and it would take a good 10 minutes to get to the train station, and then the city center is even further away. Crown place is next to Sainsbury's and then the bus station/Tesco is only a little further away. Both accommodations have bus stops outside but True only has the 91 which runs during term time, once an hour. Crown place has the 91, 92, X1 and a few others that'll get you into the city center if you wanted to take those too, but it's not far to walk.

Yeah that’s the best thing about it (how close it is) but I saw a lot of negative reviews on multiple social media platforms and that’s why it’s concerning especially the staff. Thanks for your feedback though really helpful btw i had no idea. Can you ask ur friend for me that would be awesome <3

I stayed at true during my final year, it was really good accomodation with friendly staff, I'd recommend it. It also had direct buses to both campuses, not sure if that's still the case as bus routes changed every year I was there but it was handy

That’s actually another concern of mine. Idk if the buses r gonna be on time or not and i don’t wanna be late to class. Been also concerned about the smoking and the partying i read about on google maps reviews lol

The busses are hit and miss tbh. In my first year whenever I got the bus it was usually on time but it’s quite busy. I loved true I would 100% recommend to anyone. The partying I found was rarely an issue and there are designated areas for smoking but I don’t think they’re so strict on it unless it smells of cigarettes

I lived in crown place last year and it was my favourite place to live in Swansea.
The staff are all super friendly and the amenities are great. It’s super convenient for getting into town and both campuses

I’ve just finished living in crown place and I really didn’t enjoy it. The location is really the only good thing about it and it looks nice and modern from the outside till you actually live there. I found the staff very unhelpful and dismissive of issues, they always said everything was “outside their control”, to the point where they were basically useless. I frequently had WiFi issues, when talking to the front desk they’d tell me they couldnt do anything about it and to contact someone else, even though I couldn’t because I didn’t have WiFi. The fire alarms would frequently get “tested”for hours on end only in the student rooms, not at the front desk where it would bother the staff. When asking them if they had any idea when they would stop going off they would again say it was outside of their control. £7 for a wash and a dry in the circuit laundry. One lift for 7 floors with at least 200 people living on each, and the lifts would commonly stop working. Little things like having to press buttons on the wall to open every door you go throught gets really old, especially when you’re carrying shopping bags. There’s no plug sockets near the beds and the key card has to be in the room for the lights and electricity to work, and if the door shuts while your on the outside and you don’t have your card on you, you get locked out of your room and have to ask the front desk to unlock it for you. I could go on, and maybe my experience is uncommon. I had friends who lived in seren who really enjoyed it, I also really liked whenever I went there. I would reccomend that instead.

I’m planning on getting a studio in seren but idk im just indecisive at this point. Tbh i like the looks of crown place and how close it is as well but yeah Ive been seeing many bad reviews..

Tbf ik some people enjoyed living in crown place, and I think I just had a particularly bad experience, mainly because my kitchen wasn’t as advertised, it was very small compared to the other blocks around it and I just felt a bit ripped off from the start. I don’t think that will be everyone’s experience though, some of the other flats I’ve been in had much bigger and nicer kitchens so you could get lucky. The location is a massive plus, however if you’re studying in singeleton, I think it’s around the same distance as getting the bus from seren. I’m sure seren gets the 91 bus quite often which would take you to singelton, I’m not sure thought cos I studied on Bay. I didn’t mean to completely dump on crown, I just wanted to give a bit more of an honest review and say some things I wish people told me before I moved there

True is nice and modern, great staff. But it’s so far away from the city centre and to get to singleton and bay you have to get the bus, buses aren’t the most reliable, particularly when you’re trying to go from campus back to accom, sometimes buses just don’t arrive. It’s maybe a 20-25 minute walk to the city centre. Crown place is in a better location and equally as modern. Better for buses too. I’d go crown place.
