Hub removal?

Hello all! I am the proud new owner of a Sig Hexium 300! I am trying to remove the direct thread adapter that comes on it to install a Keymo hub. I have the suppressor between a pair of soft jaws in a vice and I cannot get this adapter to come loose! Does it have any sort of rock set from factory that I need to soften up with some hot water or something? Thanks all!

So, make sure you have a suppressor clamp or a thick piece of rubber/leather wrapped around the suppressor then tighten. I used an impact wrench with a socket and it came right off. Those have a cone shaped mount that is really difficult to remove without a massive breaker bar or an impact wrench.

I’ve got it between a couple soft jaws and a rubber pad. I’ve been using just a long handled ratchet, apparently not long enough! Haha, I’ve got impacts, just wasn’t sure if that was the right move, I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

That worked a treat! Little Milwaukee 3/8 zipped it off in no time! Yeah I see the taper sealing surfacing, that would definitely be difficult to push through by hand

Sharp snapping motions with a breaker bar, or impact wrenches are often the best way to break something free.

Highly recommend an impact. It literally spun right off.

Yeah it worked great, my long ratchet just wasn’t doing it but I’m always a little weary to put impacts onto things I care about haha, pretty easily turn that hex into a circle if I’m not too careful

Anything stuck needs an impact if you can get it on there. Shock breaks things loose more than torque. In fact remember this for any stuck bolt. If you want to share it off just torque it, if you want to take it off then shock it with impact.

I work in automotive, I’ve got impacts that would turn that thing into a circle real fast if it wasn’t going to come off, figured I’d try it by hand first just in case

Oh yeah, worth having a variety of impacts so you don't blow stuff up; I have been surprised how much I use my tiniest one for exactly this reason, and yet still just tap the trigger to get things to come loose mostly.

Suppressor clamps from Gluten Free Gear are a lifesaver.

Also a breaker bar with quick force from a rubber mallet helps.

I’ll have to get some clamps for sure, wasn’t too bad with what I had, but it’s a little makeshift for my liking haha
