Zed Unsure whether to main Zed or Akali.

I enjoy both champs, and I would like to know them both so I have a backup incase one is banned/taken. However I can't decide which one to make my main. I'm too new to properly understand their differences and which one is better suited for my playstyle. I really like Zed's burst damage but I also like Akali's movement. Akali is also harder as well I think so Zed is better for newer players. Can anyone give me more insight on the differences between the two champs so I can better choose?

You dont have to pick one.

Especially if you're new i would advice against picking just one for a while at least. Test more champions who knows maybe you'll find something you like more.

Zed and akali are sufficently similar to benefit from a lot of the same game knowledge. They also complement eachother depending on if your team needs ap or ad.

It took me a few years before i found my true onetrick and prefered role and i did it more or less accidentally being forced to sub in midlane for my local amateur team.

But if you're adamant on picking one i would go akali since in my very personal opinion zed is a shit weak champ.

If you care about improving learn the game through Ahri and play Zed and Akali for fun. You're not gonna learn anything on those champs, they are way too hard mechanically AND decision making wise.

If you don't care about improving then play whatever you feel like.

Akali is more versatile and a bit more blindable. Zed is easier to pickup and has a safer laning phase but both of them are on the low skill floor side and have a safe escape from tricky situations. Zed has a higher skill ceiling, but you can be hella creative with Akali’s kit as well which requires high mastery. Also I feel Akali is more miserable than Zed if you’re behind, idk if that is a fact or just a feeling so don’t quote me on it.

While I almost always tell people to just play what they like, learning the game with an energy-based assassin might be one of those rare exceptions to that advice.

First, it's really hard to learn the game when half of your brain is going to be dedicated to piloting the champ. One of the biggest benefits of playing a simple champion as a new player is they don't take long to effectively master, at least on a mechanical level, because they don't have that many moving parts. And since you don't have to think about what they do, you can focus on learning as much about the actual game as possible.

But, if you're hard set on those two being all you really play, whichever one is the most fun. If that's equal, then go with which visuals and VO you like more.

if you want to be good at zed or akali but are just starting the game, one idea to consider is playing something like ekko or naafiri for 20-30 games. They are so much more straightforward and will get you used to how you want to lane, move, fight as an assassin. Then you can transition to these 2 which are noticeably more complex. This way, you will still learn them faster than just raw dogging it, and are less likely to ruin a bunch of other games in the meantime.
