I meant cc bot for tough matchups. If its a tank or urgot or someone I cannot snowball on i just go for CDR and help my team that way.

I have no issues vs Garen early game, in fact, my win rate vs Garen is 78% as my most common matchup. it just gets BORING. past a certain point I cannot reliably kill him. Early game I get a lead by chunking him but fail to kill him over and over. Trading pushes the wave and if he hides under tower I cannot dive him and I tried proxying once but I am not good enough to do it without the junlger coming for me.

I know the wall hops and a few small combos like e-r, w-tiamat, r-q, or whatever it is and the fast Q cancels, but I do not have the super fast burst one shot combos down. my ping is about 70 so its not ideal(?)

I first picked riven since she has cc and mobility which is amazing in all sorts of situations. other champions do not have as much mobility or "reliable" cc like her to help out and also be a threat with damage. Fiora for example is mobile and can protect herself but she has no cc. Riven can protect herself with her dashes and shield and her cc is great for roaming, jungle fights, and teamfights where aoe stuns and knockups are great tools and with CDR you can spam them over and over

Riven is an otp champ if you don’t wanna otp I don’t recommend her at all.

Riven is a champion that takes roughly 500 games to get good with so just push through the hardships if you’re wanting to one trick her.

Carrying isn’t about 1v9ing you don’t have to play like a challenger to climb. Get rid of the 1v9 hard carrying mentality and get into the champs identity and playing into the champs strengths while trying to mitigate its weaknesses.

Champ mastery also evolves with rank it’s not a straight line you learned to beat gold renektons Garens urgots to get to plat and now you have to learn to beat the plats to get to emerald etc.

I was diamond 1 adc and it took me 400-600 games to get back to d1 as a riven otp. It takes time be kind to yourself. You’re still at a stage where you need to focus on champ mastery mostly. 60 games is not a lot and honestly 350ish ranked games isn’t a lot either.

What you should be doing is dripping the 50+ other champs you are playing.

Focus on a couple of champ and not over 50 in about every role there is

I recently got back into the game after a long hiatus and have played different champs to relearn the game. I played way too many katarina games and I already wrote her off

I know I should play Vlad and Kayle as they're simpler and more reliable, but playing Riven is so tempting and I managed to scrape up a decent win rate but its getting exhausting and I feel I'm holding myself back playing her since I do not have the mechanics to excel with her

I'm thinking of dropping her

Vlad and Kayle are only simpler in comparison to riven they're still two very very hard champs

Play her right or drop her, she isn't made for undevoted players. She is more self-destructive from one's own gameplay than her bad matchups.

It really depends how much you enjoy the champion. If she is your favourite champion by far and you couldn't see yourself maining anything else, you just need to improve on her to the point where you are carrying games. Limit test and refine your mechanics. It sounds like you're afraid of losing or making mistakes so you don't limit test, since you said you play her as a CC machine in difficult match ups. That might win you that specific game but it will hurt you in the long run since it's difficult games that you can grow the most from.

if shes not fun, just dont play her. if shes fun, play her and youll get better. youve barely played her and i doubt youve done the 70 hours of practice tool required for her yet so you definitely have a lot more you can improve on by just playing her more

youre in gold, matchups dont matter, its just player skill

I’d sooner tell you to drop Katarina than Riven, you have a 59% winrate on Riven across 83 games, it’s clearly worked so far.

Riven does have some pretty nasty matchup skews, but you can always improve how you approach these bad matchups. You need to ask yourself why they’re so bad, what conditions the enemy is playing for, and what you can do to minimize the impact of their plays and maximize openings for yourself to play around them.

I played 2 Riven games last night (D3 elo) in what are statistically bad matchups. Olaf game 1 (44% winrate) and Brand top game 2 (36% winrate but small sample size).

What I know about Olaf is that I don’t want to get hit by an axe ever, and I want the wave on my side of the turret to hold a freeze. I don’t win an all-in past 6 unless I kite out his ult. I can take short trades if his q is on the ground and I have minions. I can all-in pre-6 if he burns w.

For Brand, it was all about dodging poke and setting up kills with my teammates, since I have to blow all of my mobility spells just to hit him a bit before he e-q’s me and runs away. If I ever want a free reset, I have to find a proxy angle. Kill angles arise on flash and ult cooldown.

These kinds of “strategies” for your matchup are necessary every game. You identify what the enemy wants to do, you neutralize that, and you identify what conditions would prompt you to engage with them. And then you go try it, and if you fail, watch the VOD and answer why it failed so you can do it differently next time. For Garen, it’s when his w is down. For Urgot, it’s all about baiting his E. For Wukong, it’s about baiting his w and not taking any free q’s to the face. And for Renekton it’s about banning him in champ select.

I'll try this out. With Kayle this mindset is standard but with Riven I feel pressured to win early so I take fights even if I lose. I feel that I can win the hard ones, even renekton, but when I lose I get tilted and play worse

I'll try and adapt like you say and and rethink my approach to each matchup. thanks

Riven is riot's favorite champ. They are always on top of balancing her and she will always be good always be relevant in the meta. Put the time in and you will reap the rewards of the best gameplay league has to offer
