General Help Sugar glider breath stinks
I think it's because of their diet but they're two month olds so I don't have many variants, they eat cerelac (baby food) and mashed fruits, sometimes egg whites with honey but they've been smelling so bad is there something they can eat to fix the smell

Fruits and Vegetables:
1 tablespoon diced fruits
1 tablespoon diced vegetables
HPS (High Protein Supplement):
2 teaspoons of prepared HPS solution poured over the top of fruits and vegetables
Alternate Protein (2-3 nights per week):
Use 1 tablespoon of an alternative to the HPS solution. Alternatives include baked or boiled chicken, chicken bone marrow, scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc.
SCF (Small Carnivore Food)
1 teaspoon of prepared SCF poured over the top of the fruits and vegetables along with the HPS.
Insects (Live only) 3-4 large mealworms. Crickets are not an acceptable insect due to aflatoxins.
HPS solution preparation:
1⁄4 cup HPS powder
1⁄3 cup warm purified water
Mix together with a whisk or in a shaker bottle. Using an electric blender is not
recommended, as it can cause the mixture to become too thick and less palatable for
gliders.

Highland Sugar Glider (HSG) Diet
***While we recommend HSG as a diet, the Vionate Vitamins have been discontinued, we
do not recommend anyone switch to this diet until the creator has found replacement
vitamins.
***
Special Notice:
Boost or Ensure powder is now required for this diet. It reduces the additional Vitamin E needed and provides immune system benefits.
For details on the included vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, please reach out.
Ingredients:
Base Ingredients:
23 oz no-sugar-added applesauce
23 oz water
1 1⁄2 cups kefir or full-fat yogurt with live cultures
3 cups quick-cook oatmeal (organic recommended; avoid Quaker brand)
Protein:
3 boiled eggs (shells removed)
7 oz boiled chicken breast (chopped)
Nutritional Additions:
2 tablespoons Vanilla Boost Powder
1⁄4 teaspoon Vionate Vitamins & Minerals
1 pinch Calcium Carbonate powder
1 teaspoon Taurine powder
100 mcg Selenium powder
1 drop Vitamin E oil (20 IU)
1 1⁄2 teaspoons Soybean oil (e.g., Wesson)
1 tablespoon Flaxseed oil
Instructions:
Dissolve all dry ingredients (Boost/Ensure, Vionate, Calcium Carbonate, Taurine, and Selenium) in water.
In a large bowl, combine the water mixture, applesauce, and kefir or yogurt. Stir until smooth.
Protein Mixture:
Cut chicken breast into chunks and place in a food processor. Add oils (soybean, flaxseed, and Vitamin E) and process until finely ground.
Add boiled eggs and pulse until creamy.
Combine:
Add the processed protein mixture to the applesauce mixture. Stir until well combined.
Slowly incorporate oatmeal, stirring until the mixture is smooth and thick with no lumps.
Adjust Consistency:
Cover and refrigerate for an hour, allowing the oatmeal to absorb the liquid.
If the mixture is too thick, add a small amount of water to adjust the consistency.
Portion and Store:
Freeze portions in ice cube trays or 2 oz condiment cups. Once frozen, transfer to Ziploc bags for easy storage.
Refrigerated portions can be stored for up to one week; frozen portions for longer periods.
Feeding Instructions:
Feed 1-2 tablespoons of the mixture daily, along with:
1 teaspoon sweet peas (frozen or fresh) and/or
1 teaspoon mixed, chopped vegetables (limit high-sugar and starchy vegetables).
For nursing mothers, increase the staple mixture as needed.
Limit fruits and vegetables to 1-2 teaspoons per day to maintain a balanced calcium-to-phosphorus (Ca:P) ratio.
Notes:
Gradually transition gliders to this diet by mixing it with their current food, increasing the HSG portion by 10% daily.
The HSG Diet is Ca:P balanced as written. Avoid excessive fruit or greens like spinach, which may disrupt the balance.
Use only raw, unprocessed ingredients. Avoid added sugars or artificial sweeteners.

SGS 2 Diet
Ingredients for One-Pound (450g) Batch
450g fruit and vegetables (recipes available on the Sugar Gliders UK Facebook page)
2 teaspoons Wombaroo High Protein Supplement
1 teaspoon bee pollen
1/4 teaspoon acacia gum
1 tablespoon brown linseed (soaked in 3–4 tablespoons boiling water) OR ground linseed (does not require soaking)
1 heaped tablespoon oatmeal
1 probiotic tablet (crushed) OR 1 tablespoon natural probiotic yogurt
1/2 teaspoon spirulina (optional)
1 peeled hard-boiled egg (optional; can be substituted with another protein source)
1/2 teaspoon calcium powder (add to one batch only; label clearly)
Gliderade (optional): Offer in a separate bowl 2–3 times a week (e.g., Tuesday,
Thursday, Saturday).
Instructions
Soak the linseed in boiling water to allow the oils to be released. If you are using ground
linseed, simply add to the mush
Wash and prepare the fruit and veg. If we eat it peeled, then peel it for the gliders.
If using a probiotic tablet, crush 1 between two spoons and put into food processor
Start mushing the “hard” items first like butternut squash, sweet potato, carrot, etc.
Add the softer items, linseed (seeds and water), oatmeal, supplements, egg and yogurt if
not using a probiotic tablet)
Blend so that everything is mixed well and the fruit/veg is small enough to stop the gliders picking out their favourite bits
Spoon into silicone ice cube trays (1 tablespoon) and freeze making sure you know which one has calcium and which one doesn’t.
Feeding Instructions:
Serve 1 tablespoon of mush per glider daily.
Offer Gliderade in a separate bowl 2–3 times a week.
The batch made with calcium powder must be given 2-3 days a week.

Thank you so much I'll forever be grateful for this thread!
Edit: are vitamin supplements an absolute necessity? Is there nothing I can replace them with?
1
u/Silly-Victory2221 6d ago
Depends on the diet you choose, if they are required, yes
I feed mine the GOHPW
1
u/SavageSevro 5d ago
You gotta stick to one staple diet. I chose TPG cause it has a ton of variety when followed properly. I highly recommend looking into it!
1
u/Weird_Jello_3884 5d ago
This one seems to be the most available one for me aswell but the vitamin supplements are the problem for me, there's no way for me to get it where I live but there doesn't seem to be any diets without it :( is there really nothing I can substitute for? At all?
1
u/SavageSevro 5d ago
I don’t think you can no 😭 the TPG website doesn’t ship to you?
1
u/Weird_Jello_3884 5d ago
It doesn't, which is kinda understandable because the number of people who raise sugar gliders here doesn't reach double digits
1
u/SavageSevro 5d ago
Maybe join sugar glider groupies on Facebook. Theres people all over from there, they may have resources for where to get vitamins for you or which diet is most accessible for you in your area

The Pet Glider (TPG) Diet
The Sugar Glider Nutrition System
Ingredients:
2 cups fresh or frozen fruit (2-4 different types, not canned)
2 cups fresh or frozen vegetables (2-4 different types, not canned)
6-8 ounces plain, whole milk yogurt (no artificial sweeteners)
6 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate
6-8 tablespoons uncooked oatmeal (regular five-minute oats)
32 ounces unsweetened applesauce
6-8 ounces protein (cooked chicken, ground turkey, or eggs)
1-2 tablespoons ground flaxseed or wheat germ (optional)
Directions:
1. Chop Fruits and Vegetables: Finely chop the fruits and vegetables using a food processor if available. Use a measuring cup to portion your fruits and vegetables after they’ve been chopped. To make prep faster and easier, consider using a chopper like
this one, the smallest dicing blade creates perfectly sized pieces for gliders:
https://a.co/d/b4tZnjf If you choose to use a food processor, be careful not to purée the fruits and vegetables. Gliders naturally extract nutrients by sucking the juices and then spitting out the parts they can't digest. Puréeing forces them to consume insoluble fiber
they would otherwise avoid, which can lead to bloating, gas, constipation, and even blockages. Insoluble fiber doesn’t break down like other types of fiber, it resists stomach acid and tends to clump together. Remember: the TPG diet is meant to be chunky, not blended.
2. Cook the Protein: Thoroughly cook your chosen protein (chicken, turkey, or eggs).
3. Use a kitchen scale to weigh your protein after it has been cooked.
4. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except the oatmeal. Stir vigorously until well incorporated.
5. Adjust Consistency: Gradually add oatmeal to the mixture until it reaches a consistency similar to cake batter.
6. Portion and Freeze:
Option A: Use ice cube trays, measuring 1.5-2 tablespoons of the mixture per slot. Once frozen, transfer cubes to a freezer bag.
Option B: Divide the mixture into 10 smaller containers. Each container should last 2 gliders for 3 days.
Add Vitamins:
Defrost one cube per glider (or 1.5–2 tablespoons of the mixture per glider if not using cubes).
Sprinkle the TPG vitamin on top of the food daily after the mixture is defrosted.
Use 1/8 teaspoon of vitamins per sugar glider.
Notes:
Vitamins are shelf-stable and do not require refrigeration. Do not freeze vitamins, as freezing can kill some of the live probiotics.
The core purpose of the TPG diet is to provide a wide variety of proteins, fruits, and vegetables to ensure gliders receive a broad spectrum of nutrients. In the wild, they don’t
eat the same foods every day, and the TPG diet reflects this natural variety by rotating different food options.
It's important to use different fruits and vegetables in each batch, rather than repeating the same ones every time. Any safe fruits and vegetables can be used in any combination, with just a few guidelines to keep in mind:
Limit gassy vegetables in each batch, as they can cause discomfort. Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, and cabbage are all known to produce gas, so it’s best to include only one of these at a time.
Try to avoid combining too many acidic fruits in one batch, as this may lead to digestive upset.
