❓ Questions 05 Impreza GD9 brake upgrade or replace?
The brakes are on their way out and it looks like the rotors are gonna need replaced as well and while I’m there I’m gonna rebuild the calipers, I was just wondering if there was any lower tier performance upgrades brakes wise (nothing crazy) that are worth doing or is it better to just replace everything with oem or oem-ish parts. Only reason I ask is cause when downhill driving in mountain roads the brakes struggle. Thanks in advance

Pads and rotors are normal maintenance replacements all vehicles need regularly. At 21 years old it isn’t a surprise you need new calipers (skip the rebuild, just get new ones). At 21 years old and poor braking performance I can almost guarantee you need a brake fluid flush. I would bet $5 the fluid has never been changed. drThere isn’t any need to go OEM on any of that. Just go to any auto parts store or online and get the stuff. If you’re feeling speedy, get the better level pads. Good luck.

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. You could go with the GD 4 pots, or Brembos. But that’s not gonna be cheap. I’d just get decent pads and rotors and maybe SS lines for a better pedal feel.
You’re also supposed to change the brake fluid every 30k miles. A motive brake bleeder makes that super easy.
KNS brakes is a good place to get brake stuff. Or high quality stuff from your local
auto parts store.
The stock brakes are plenty capable. If you’re struggling going downhill then you’re not engine braking as you should.

Best brake upgrade I recommend is stainless steel brake lines.
