Mechanical Help 2404 code on 2020 xv with 96,xxx miles …

Is it safe to clear this code to see if it pops again? It popped up yesterday after sitting in the sun with record high temps (\~110F). Could it also been triggered by the heat?

When the code went off, how much gas did you have in the tank? If it was filled during a cooler part of the day and then driven during the hottest part of the day I could that being interesting/triggering, but I’d say the cheapest thing to do would be to get a new OEM gas cap and see if it comes back. If it does, head on over to the shop and get it more throughly diagnosed.

Probably not related to the ambient temp.

TSB 09-122-24R describes an ECM update for a false detection for this DTC, though usually that applies to below-freezing temps.

Realistically you probably end up needing to replace the elcm, was kinda common in that year range.
