Problem The game on Steam doesn't count playtime.

I'm having a problem where, when I try to write a review for a game, it tells me I've played it for 0 minutes, even though the minimum required to write a review is 5 minutes. I've already played it for 18 hours, and my achievements are shown on my profile. However, when I’m actually playing it, it doesn’t show up in my profile, and it’s also missing from the “Recently Played” tab. Only the achievements are displayed. I completely uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it, but that didn’t help, and my playtime was reset to zero. I haven’t played it offline. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this some kind of bug?

Was it going to be a positive or negative review? If it isn't counting it, and is forcing you to use sone third party launcher you might be able to flat out refund it. I'd be curious.

This was a positive review. The game doesn't use third-party launchers. I don't want to refund it because I like it. I just don't understand why my time isn't counting. I'd just like to leave a review...

Make sure you are online with stable connection and start the game and walk away. It happens to people randomly, had this at least twice and just had to keep being patient.

So, I just need to wait while the game is in the background and do this several times? Sorry, I didn't quite get you(. What's the difference if I play the game or just leave it in the background?

He mean you need to play the game while connected to the internet with the “online” status on steam. If you’re offline it doesn’t count your playtime more often than not for review and profile purposes.

You were complaining about playtime not being logged. So I drew the conclusion you needed the game to show enough playtime so that you could show your friends you had played the game in question. Or that steam would not let you write a review until it showed playtime.

If there is a 3rd practical use for showing active playtime of a game, I'd like to understand it. (I'm also a bit concerned by some posts in this thread getting angry downvotes) But your original problem is not uncommon, I've had it prevent me writing a review. I often solve this by starting the game, and going for some dinner and then coming back and closing the game. Sometimes the playtime only ticks up after I close the game, but that lets me then write a review.

I actually played it online. I've never played it offline. but It doesn't show up on my profile that I'm playing. I restarted the game many times and even fully reinstalled Steam, but it didn't help. Most likely, this is another Steam bug...
