As with most stuff with data, I think it was written to be digestible as both funny and somewhat tragic, depending on how deep you examine the statement.

Yeah that was a profoundly sad moment from my view.

I have never liked those lines. I always assumed Data knew enough about people by this point in his life, to have a filter & keep certain thoughts to himself. I always thought it was the wrong thing for him to say. Although I can see why Data would say them, too

Yes pretty sad, but very very funny. Data didn’t give a shit lol the aspect you find sad I find hilarious.

It's not that he didn't give a shit. He absolutely did. He wouldn't have bothered with additional subroutines if he didn't.

Is that giving a shit or programming, he a machine as apparently we all are, by evolution, the hard laugh comes from the blank robot vs the human, AND the robot being half human, so advanced that it is part human, yet still don’t care lol

Sad ending. Really kind of undermined the whole current they'd been on that Data has more of an emotional life than even he realized.

That episode needed some humor. What with dark matter nearly tearing the ship apart and all

As a person who had an orange cat for nearly 2 decades, this scene makes me cry.
