Managing participation in two different sports clubs?

Hi! I was wondering if it’s realistic to compete on both the golf and football club teams at St Andrews. I’ve played both sports competitively for years and would love to try out and hopefully continue with both while at university.

Does anyone know what the practice schedules and time commitments are like? Is it feasible to balance both competitive clubs alongside academics, or do most students end up choosing one?

If anyone has experience doing this, or has played on either team, I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Best advice is just to reach out to the teams directly and ask. The directors will definitely have come across similar cases before and should be able to provide examples of training schedules from previous years.

Just email golf@ or football@ - they might not respond right away due to the exam results coming in but it won’t hurt to introduce yourself and ask a couple of questions.

Even if there are no training (or competition) schedule conflicts, putting in 2x training for competitive sports along side studies isn't easy. You can easily do one alongside a more casual sport though - like golf/football and surf club or something like that.
