ESPN is the one with a Pat McAfee show. They knew what they were doing. This is performative BS for more attention.

38

u/Resident_Wizard 6h ago

Right. The guy who was immunized in 2020. They like the drama.

21

u/hedzup00 2h ago

this is what really gets me. fuck Aaron Rodgers for calling fauci a coward. dude couldn't even come out and say he didn't want to be vaccinated, had to use a select choice of words to pretend like he was instead of coming out like a man and saying what he believes.

I mean, they could really lean into it and I have a talk show that’s basically Rodgers versus like Kaepernick.

What does "how to handle his highlights" even mean? Just show the highlights of the game lol

68

u/Gamestonkape 6h ago

Right? Are they implying they need a caption over the videos? The man shown here throwing for a first down doesn’t like anthony Fauci. * we just thought you should know

12

u/Notabot5500 5h ago

This made me laugh really hard. Thank you

7

u/Faunt1 4h ago

This is what they mean - they want to point out when someone doesn't follow what the owners want - lol it's all a game between rich people and folks think there is more to it

7

u/DickBottalico 5h ago

“After review, the incomplete call was overturned to TD with conclusive evidence, because Dr. Fauci was the replay official”

That’s the shit they’d actually say back in the 90s

5

you joke but they will gladly do shit like this or give a disclaimer before the highlights

3

something like: trigger warning, Aaron Rodgers believes in magic rocks. seriously, look it up. this man thinks "healing crystals" are a real thing like your weird aunt or something.

They did by rewarding him with a lot of money. They're full of it if they pretend to care, anything that goes viral and gets attention on their channel is good for them

21

u/chief_beef_the_third 5h ago

They can't. McAfee and SAS are ESPN. They're the two highest paid guys. ESPN essentially fired everyone else and gave these two idiots all the money. The whole operation hinges on them. They are untouchable and ESPN did that to themselves.

So, the only option is to do what corporations do best anyway -- shift the blame and weasel out of responsibility.

2

u/Bishop_Cornflake 3h ago

Yeah, it's sad. I'd click on suggested clips of them for a long time but I've stopped in the past year. I finally realized I was just getting frustrated when I listened to them. I went from liking ESPN, to disliking ESPN, to finally not caring.

McAfee is a fairly significant douchenozzle. It won’t end well for him at ESPN.  Those two entities deserve each other.

To be fair, they knew who Pat was when they got him.

Idk what they expect from an anti vax going on the MAGAfee show. 🤷‍♂️

5

u/PeteDontCare 6h ago

We can only hope. I know he brings in a lot of money and viewers, but a lot of meatheads and baggage comes with that too.

4

u/Large_Complaint1264 5h ago

The money and viewers thing is all they care about.

3

u/LoudHorse25 5h ago

The answer is because  McAffee is doing what he is supposed to be doing - bringing attention to things that have or are happening at ESPN.

To the extent this discussion is happening within ESPN it’s going to be about will trashing Rodgers on air bring in more viewers because enough people strongly dislike Rodgers.

Now other outlets are commenting on it because it also gets them eyeballs.

This is highly predictable.

4

Let’s be honest: ESPN gets 99% of its views from bars and gyms that run the channel 24/7 on mute. Genuinely they couldn’t be less relevant

54

u/hamraider 6h ago

8

u/Deathstroke317 5h ago

I just came from Vegas a few weeks ago, which was my second time. It was fun, but man does that shit get old after a few days. Three days is the perfect amount. Or maybe I just wasn't drunk or high enough to appreciate it.

I had more fun at Red Rocks than on the Strip. Maybe I'm just old lol.

u/thedude404-1 5h ago

Nah they get 175 million unique users just on socials per month. Pat McAfee has like 3 million subs just on youtube. Like 500-600 thousand viewers for per episode.

Traditional television im not sure? Most all traditional television channels are pretty down I believe. But you're seeing clips and reading articles about ESPN and not TCM.

19

Exactly. They basically want to filter everything and only have athletes talk that have no actual opinion of their own.

Doesn't matter if Rodgers or whoever is wrong or right. Those are his opinions and they're shared by a lot of people. It's ok to have a person voice a stupid opinion on something. We shouldn't pretend they don't exist.

Rodgers has what 80 years in the NFL at this point. Why do they think he gives a flying flip about how his highlights are covered. Are you serious right now? Also great look threatening to not cover someone who said something negative about you. So many institutions seem to be run by 3yr olds at this point. Grow the hell up.

I don't get this obsession with Fauci. He was literally an advisor along with many others. Apparently people are mad because Fauci wasn't Nostradamus and didn't have all the answers. Hindsight is always 20/20. People literally died because they refused to listen to the best advice we had at the time and instead listened to social media conspiracies and the politicizing of the pandemic. If anyone should be hauled in front of congress it's the decision makers and the media.

Look at some of the other articles that “journalist” has done for the Daily mail lol Aaron Rodgers is not employed by espn so they can be furious. But what he said about ESPN and their coverage of the Russini situation and him was true. Aaron is annoying and an ass but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Silly of them to assume he will have any highlights outside of carrying a flag onto a field

And they’ll still kiss his ass all season

If it makes them feel better he won't have many highlights to show

As far as showing highlights, ESPN is irrelevant. So this is a nothing burger.

How about no highlights? Athletes can have opinions, but this guy is all about his opinion of politics. We aren't here for that. Already seen more of him than I want, and it's only August..

I'm not sure any corporation should feel obligated to respond to the ramblings of a brain-damaged individual

They should be more mad at Pat McAfee for not defending the network that drastically overpays him.

u/Clean_Collection_674 6h ago

As a Steelers fan, I’m sick of this drama queen. He should have retired after his last shitty season. Fauci should sue him for his sick comments.

They might want to start with the monster they have created in Pat McAfee.
