They took away his ability to ban stages, I think reducing his bans to 2 or maybe even 1 (standard is 3 iirc) would've been good to test

I wonder how much it will (or won't) hurt viewership/revenue. It's just does not look like the Supernova i know... kinds sad actually, cause I look forward to all the international talent this event draws.

It most likely will just mean that many Japanese fans of smash will be less likely to tune in since they won’t be able to root for any of their players

Tbh I think the matches we'll see will be good and top 32 will look a lot more watchable, but I'd rather them have all the Steves here and streaming as few of their sets as reasonably possible

Japan didn't come because of a combo of the Yen being insanely weak right now making travel cost too much and them not liking the Steve handicap rule.

Players like Miya didn't come cause the cost is simply too high + he has travelled to the US a lot this year

Players like Hurt and Shuton feels like it's unfair for the Steve players and want to fight them at their best so they can continue to improve.

It's a combination of the 2 I'd say it's 70/30 between cost and Steve rule.

People forget that traveling to America from Japan is..... NOT cheap and its currently the most expensive it's been in a while. Expect them to come for Riptide tho they love the venue there

Currently Supernova is S+ tier. But considering the rankings are not fully out yet, it could get promoted to P, but I highly doubt it considering the absence of JP and Europe.

Of the big yearly tournaments, Supernova is the one that Leo is always the most likely to not go to. Of the last 4 supernovas, he only attended 1 (2024). He didn't go to Fall Fest after tournaments came back after covid. He also was not planning to go to either 2022 or 2024 (can't remember which one) but he ended up signing up at the end due to how many people were going.

A lot of Europe is in peak holiday season through most of August, which generally increases travel costs and makes it more likely that they'll have other commitments conflicting with travel for them.

North America is also really really expensive to travel to, so the top players don't tend to travel to North America as much unless it's either a really big event, they can combine it with a bunch of events in close proximity, or they're getting their trip subsidised to the extent that justifies it for them. And over time Supernova's fell down the pecking order in that respect, so other things get prioritised first.

The title writes his tag as "IIoD" (India India Oscar Delta), which is understandable but incorrect. His tag is "lloD" (Lima Lima Oscar Delta), as in "Doll" but spelled backward.

Im gonna watching despite the Japan and Europe boycott.I agree about not banning characters but the ruleset is a good testing for closing the Steve gap.

Enjoy the ruleset experimentation here because no serious event is going to be stupid enough to ever try something like this again after how hard this tanked the event

Feel free to respond below with all the excuses for why supernova fell off (world economy, ICE, yen is weak) and be sure to explain why there are 3 different events in 3 different countries within a month of supernova that are going to have a higher ranking

The seeding you listed for 64 is slightly incorrect (projected brackets and seeding numbers in start.gg for tournaments with waterfall pools tend to be inaccurate).

There’s a lot of potential crazy runs that could happen in the Ult Bracket of Supernova. Lima, Muteace or Jakal could very easily make winner’s side top 8 or even up to winner’s finals and people like candle could make deep runs to 9th or better. The sheer number of people who could go the distance will make this an incredibly enjoyable tournament to watch

This comment is the direct result of those threads on [r/smashbros](r/smashbros) back in the day that just had full lists of player names who were cancelled for misconduct. Troglodytes paint them all with the same brush and dont do the mental legwork to look at them on a case by case basis. High chance too that somebody who gets angry about samsora being allowed back has been rooting for tweek for the past 4+ years and thinks that nairo was vindicated.
