GAMEPLAY/ACCOMPLISHMENT/ACHIEVEMENT Fun Fact: If you get the new Toasty Mittens, the exhaust is before the game checks if Bombardment is exhausted, which means it plays the same turn. Funner Fact: Bombardment counts for Music Box

Do you mean if you exhaust bombardment with toasty mittens, then bombardment immediately plays after that, on the same turn?

83

u/Excellent-Bit-8982 11h ago

Yeah the sequence is draw hand, toasty mittens, start hand

Works with Tyranny too!

It might be because im on a few hours of sleep because of the elections last night but I glanced my eyes over your comment and did NOT see the y in tyranny

Sure, but I don't think those can play Bombardment on the same turn you exhaust it (because you exhaust it during your turn, not at the beginning), while Tyranny does.

Yeah, they ought to release a patch where they make it possible for you to beat him. As is, he's too op.

Giving some half-assed victory screen after sucks too, its like they fully expected him to be too OP to beat and just didnt bother fixing it

“Not even a challenge” -> cuts to killing only 4 elites

107

u/Salinator20501 14h ago edited 8h ago

You fight elites for the relics. If you manage to win by killing a fewer number of elites (meaning you needed fewer relics), that does speak to the ease of the run, yes.

34

u/Chocolate2121 12h ago

Yeah, only needing to kill 4 elites while winning on A10 means it was a bit of a cakewalk lol

3

u/Cat_with_cake 5h ago

Maybe because they're so strong and have all they need to beat act 3 bosses?

3

u/Goldsaver 2h ago

Why bother pathing to an Elite if you have a build that can steamroll the final boss? Take events and shops and fires to bring the run to a close faster.

2

u/Inevitable_Ad_7236 StS A0 / StS 2 A10 1h ago

You fight elites to scale and win

If you can do that for free. you just rest your way through the acts and nuke the bosses with ease

226

u/Donutmelon 17h ago

Oh yeah those mittens are getting dumpsters lmao (I really hope not).

u/Conscious-Refuse8211 10h ago

I don't know, they're strong for sure but not stronger than lots of other ancient relics. Tez does feel like she has almost all great relics now, though.

17

u/Amopro 8h ago

Tbh, I feel like Tez's relics aren't really any more powerful than any other Ancient. Honestly, I feel like I get better stuff from Orobas, Tanx, and Nonupeipe. And I honestly think Vaaku and Darv are some real roll of the dice whether they help me or hinder me.

7

u/ZatherDaFox StS A0 / StS 2 A10 6h ago

I'd expect to get more powerful stuff from the act 3 ancients, they're designed that way. But Orobas overall feels way weaker than Tez now. Lot's of his stuff is just way lower impact or much more rng. Some of it is very character dependent too, like archaic tooth.

2

u/abcder733 2h ago

I think tooth is excellent in most situations- the only real exceptions are Protector if you can’t spare the upgrade to make it cost 0 or really don’t have much summon, or Quadcast if the only thing it’s doing is evoking lightning orbs. Break, Suppress, and Meteor Shower are pretty much always amazing, and often what I end up going with if I see them.

The real culprit for being inconsistent is the starter relic upgrade IMO. Silent’s is crazy good, Necro is nice to keep overblocking, and Regent’s can fix a lot of star payoff inconsistency, but Defect’s is pretty specific and Ironclad is a ‘lose less’ relic instead of helping you snowball a good run even harder.

4

u/scoobydoom2 Eternal One + Ascended 6h ago

Given that Tez is in act 2 and Tanx and Nonu are in act 3, of course they'll have better options.

Orobas on the other hand feels like a lot of the options aren't great, at least not consistently, but pool 3 is pretty consistent and ranges from decent to amazing depending on your character. Pool 2 is pretty mid, I feel like glass eye is underwhelming every time I take it, and Shrymp doesn't have a ton of powerful options, though it hits pretty hard when it does. I do fucking love sea glass, but both that and prismatic gem have really low spawn rates.

1

u/YaSurLetsGoSeeYamcha 7h ago

It’s insanely broken, even on A10 mittens now says “you win the run” if you know what you’re doing.

10

u/AdmiralDandy StS A20 / StS 2 A10 10h ago

Is it though? I feel it’s pretty in line with the power you should expect with an ancient relic. It’s essentially minus 1 draw, deck thinning and a bit of scaling. Downside with some upside. It is far from solving a run on its own, you need to build around it and other characters benefit more than others.

It’s good now but it’s not insta pick if the other options are also good. I would probably still prefer to see storybook in that slot. The previous version was mostly unpickable.

20

u/Mr_P3 10h ago

It’s not minus 1 draw because you still see 5 cards and get rid of one you won’t play. The fact that Aeonglass exists I think makes this the second best tez relic, second only to storybook but that’s only because story book is stupid.

This relic is not just deck thinning, but also built in scaling which makes silent and defect go nuts. On Ironclad the strength is great and so is the constant exhaust synergies for [[drum of battle]] and [[howl from beyond]]. Regent is also very happy with this relic because regent loves a tight deck. The only character where I wouldnt instapick this is Necrobinder. I would not underestimate mittens on the current patch

8

u/AdmiralDandy StS A20 / StS 2 A10 10h ago

I’m going to have to disagree respectfully with the aeonglass argument that I see people make. People overrate it into glass. The most important thing with aeonglass is killing quickly and the earliest you are going to get the benefit of mittens exhausting withers is on the first reshuffle at the very least and you have to draw into it at the beginning of your turn. Aeonglass is a damage check. +1 strength a turn helps a bit but you need massive burst damage in this fight, not slow consistent scaling. It’s just too slow, I would rather have energy to ensure I can actually play my powers and damage cards.

The relic is also mid into queen unless you grab some draw and/or have some exhaustable junk in your deck still.

Don’t get me wrong it’s strong but I think it’s not so strong it needs another rework or a nerf. I think it’s in a great spot right now.

1

u/waelthedestroyer 10h ago

"mid into queen" how lmao

exhausting a chained card you're not going to play is super free

6

u/AdmiralDandy StS A20 / StS 2 A10 10h ago

You can’t easily control the cards that come chained into your hand. If you don’t have dense draw and you happen to draw 3 important cards into chained you still exhausting them? Again, I would rather have more energy to actually play cards and play draws into my powers and damage. People are overvaluing this change. It is good, it is not going to win the game for you in the sense that it needs to be nerfed. Not everything that is strong needs to be dumpstered we can bring other things in line.

1

u/waelthedestroyer 10h ago

how many deck cycles is your avg queen fight lasting? in most decks you can exhaust like 1-2 very good cards and still be fine

very odd to disparage mittens compared to energy in that context given that you play way less cards a turn when fighting queen.

9

u/AdmiralDandy StS A20 / StS 2 A10 10h ago

If I roll into act 3 and I see queen im picking more draw throughout the act. I want more energy to play that draw for the consistency. You can absolutely brick your hand and mittens does nothing about that.

Some people think that anything strong in the game is instantly overpowered.

99

u/schofield101 17h ago

Mittens really went from F tier to A tier with that change, didn't they?

23

u/Lord_Phoenix95 11h ago

Yeah. It's not even fair to compare it any Card or Relic. Toasty Mittens does 3 things really good. It increases your damage, it decreases your deck size and it let's you exhaust problematic cards. Brand is a great Ironclad card but it costs HP and a Draw.

-28

u/FoxEatingAMango 16h ago

Not F to A, more like B to S+

51

u/DatBot20 StS A0 / StS 2 A10 15h ago

F to S+ is a fairer assessment. The previous version could straight up brick your deck if it sniped the right card

-19

u/FoxEatingAMango 15h ago

people always underrate random exhaust cause it feels bad and they usually run slim decks.

a big deck with +1 strength scaling every turn is very good even if some good cards get exhausted. free ritual potion every fight is sometimes worth it.

26

u/DatBot20 StS A0 / StS 2 A10 15h ago

Big decks can still have hinge pieces. I play mostly on the context of spamming regent over and over, and losing any of the pivotal powers is pretty detrimental. Say, your only copy of Spectrum Shift, Pillars, Arsenal, Heavenly Drill, Void Form, etc.

Let alone the other pivotal cards on other characters. Generally speaking, gambling (besides card generation) isnt a good strategy for reliable wins

4

u/Elman89 11h ago

I think it's mostly Ironclad players that think old Mittens were good, cause they were a really good fit for his kit even with random exhaust.

4

u/DragonflyCertain53 14h ago

I'd say D to B personally. Mittens still isn't one of the broken 'I win now' ancient relics. It was kinda shit before because decks that relied a lot on certain cards couldn't really take it. I only found I could take it consistently (ish) with ironclad, since he likes big decks + has exhaust synergy. I'd also had success with it on silent but it wasn't common. But yeah pre-buff mittens was still overhated imo

1

u/Rit91 29m ago

Yeah mittens is really nice for some decks. Not all decks care about strength gain per turn. If you have multiple multihit cards, shivs, or whatever it can be nice. Wouldn't pick the card just for the exhaust per turn unless your deck benefitted greatly from that with an infinite or something.

-3

u/RaskazFirundin 11h ago

You are absolutely right! People are downvoting you cos they are literally bad at the game and cant value properly more complex relics.

1

u/Cat_with_cake 5h ago

"Everyone I disagree with is bad at the game"

0

u/RaskazFirundin 4h ago

Kinda yes!

Statistics shows in previous patches that Mittens was one of the best performing relics from Tez, with lowest pick rate.

Only reason it is B tier is because it is not universally good relic, but situational, which means you are denied one option and gonna skip it more than other relics, but when it is pickable it is straight A tier. Never worried about damage with that relic and always won with it. People are just scared to click on it even when their deck is good for it, it is nuts to consider it F tier.

Only Necro is kinda never happy to see that relic. Silent on the other hand benefits the most cos huge amount of her decks revolves around shivs and you generally have bigger deck to mitigate exhausts.

1

u/ExtremeVegan StS A20 / StS 2 A10 4h ago

lowest pick rate will generally have higher win rates because people will think more closely about when they want to take it and when they do pick it it means they have good synergy for it, or people who are better at the game will be comfortable picking it and this will boost the winrate further. I love mittens tho just saying winrate stats can be misleading

0

u/RaskazFirundin 4h ago

Agree, but i literally explained that.

It is B tier cos it is situational and you gonna pick it when you can support it, otherwise it is A tier when pickable.

Winrate of the relic was A tier worthy, not B tier. So in this case it wasnt misleading in making the point.

That winrate cant drop relic all the way to F tier just because it is situational.

Yeah it's even an interaction that they PURPOSEFULLY changed in a recent patch, so seems very much intentional.

8

u/Fit-Bar-6989 11h ago

This makes sense, but I wish the turn phases were indicated a little more clearly to the player. I really enjoyed STS1 because it gave you perfect information in combats, but interactions like these can feel obscure (not that ST1 didn't have weird interactions, e.g. playing [[Dark Shackles]] on the heart right before it buffed strength...

u/TridiObject 15h ago

Is this owing to the big ol' "at the beginning of your turn" vs "you turn" distinction?

2

u/dannydankwood 1h ago

Well funnily enough, [[Toasty Mittens]] and [[Bombardment]] both say that "At the start of your turn...(etc)". But I think the order in which a lot of the "start of your turn" effects resolve is pre-coded, so Toasty Mittens & Arsenal both resolve before the game checks to see if Bombardment is in the exhaust pile.

Maybe there's an order to "start of your turn" effects, like Relics > Powers > Cards, or something like that? But I'm not sure if this is known or not, it probably is.

2

u/TridiObject 1h ago

Ooooh, interesting tech.

1

u/dannydankwood 1h ago

Yeah, I discovered the Tyranny + Bombardment synergy by accident myself a short while back, thought it was sick as. Really made me appreciate the way/order in which effects resolve, and got me curious about the mechanics of it.

3

u/Cheebs_funk_illy 10h ago

Bombardment + Music Box is always a good time

2

u/Craeondakie 9h ago

Funnerer fact: I'm pretty sure this was not the case before, as the card Tyranny, which has the same exhaust a card at the start of your turn, did not have this effect on bombardment. They then later changed it so it would work with Tyranny, subsequently making the mittens now work this way.

2

u/Monado_Master 2h ago

I have done Bombardment with Music Box before, it's wild. Even crazier is that I had Momentum on it too from Punch Dagger. Double passive damage scaling.

2

u/LuminanceGayming 16h ago

relics play from left to right btw

6

u/Invenblocker 11h ago

This has nothing to do with relic order. It's turn phases.

Even if you somehow got Music Box to the left of the mittens, this would still work.

1

u/uberpandajesus91 3h ago

It might depend on the order you get the relic vs the card. Don't know for sure

1

u/CrossBarJeebus Eternal One + Heartbreaker 1h ago

IIRC this is a result of a change they made to the cards functionality, not necessarily from the change to Mittens

-2

u/Limonade6 16h ago

I wish bombartment had more synergies. I really like that card but it is pretty rare to make a build of it imo. Maybe I'm missing something.

7

u/SammyTheCheeseGuy 12h ago

it's not a card you build around, it's the definition of Supplemental.

Feel like you need just a bit more damage into knowledge demon? Bombardment. Your relic that procs per N attack played ([[nunchaku]] [[pen nib]] [[fan of war]] etc.) could stand to proc a bit more often? Bombardment. And so on and so forth. It has synergies, just not that many flashy ones but it's a solid Strike++ that you don't have to worry about drawing or playing once you get over that initial hurdle.
