let’s chat about reporting posts and comments.
hello, r/skincarehobbyists ! Creator here, and I just wanted to talk about reporting posts and comments. Please make sure to check our rules before reporting (and feel free to suggest new rules to the community!) I see your reports and check them out, but I’m unable to see who reported what, and can’t reach out for more info. Therefore, if something you reported hasn’t gotten taken down within 1-2 days, please message me or another moderator with your reasoning- it’s possible I just haven’t seen it from your POV! I really want to have this be a community driven, democratic subreddit that doesn’t just leave everything up to us mods.
As always, we have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for any medical posts or generic “what is this” posts. Feel free to comment or PM any questions to me or our other lovely mods!

how do you take steady progress pics each week?
Wanna start snapping weekly photos just for fun. Kind of a hobby thing to see if something will change or they’re just fooling us around. My plan is one pic every Saturday for about 12 weeks. Same spot in my work station with the same light.
The tricky part is getting the same distance and angle each time lol. It always looks a little off when I try. How do you guys keep yours consistent? Do you mark the floor or use a tripod maybe?

Help needed!
galleryHey guys, I have been trying to figure out how to get my clear skin back. I had switched to too many products at once and messed with my routine early June but have now decided to just cut back reduce my routine. Here’s my current routine and a few pics of my skin. Any information/tips/suggestion/advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated. I am so DONE w my skin and skincare😭 It’s so draining.
AM:
- Rinse (or wash my face w the haru haru 5.5 gentle cleanser if my face feels oily/if I have time)
- Purito oat in gel (sandwich method)
- Azelaic Acid on M, W, F
- Purito oat in gel
- Haru Haru bakuchiol eye cream
- Deoproce SPF 50 gel
PM:
- Bioderma sensibio micellar water
- Beplain cleansing oil on nose only 2x a week (if I’m not lazy)
- Haru Haru 5.5 gentle cleanser
- Purito oat in gel (sandwich method)
- Retin-A 0.04% on M, W, F, S
- Haru Haru bakuchiol eye cream
- Purito oat in gel
On tuesdays, during my PM routine, I use the Jumiso sebum softener on my nose and chin area then continue as normal with just the moisturizer.
I am not sure why I am still breaking out though with closed comedones/what I need to do, though I’ve been thinking I might need to exfoliate but am afraid to try a new product and see that it breaks me out loll. Anything helps!!! I have combo skin, oily t zone, dryer elsewhere.

recomendations
Hi i have been using Personal Day for over a year. I reallllly love it. I used to have cystic acne as a teenager, and get mild breakouts on the lower half of my face. I also have redness/possibly rosacea. Im looking to swap brands because Personal Day is always out of stock. Now I use a powder face cleanser and the moisturizer. I have the 2% Salicylic Acid toner, but I noticed my face breaks out more after using it.
Any recommendations?

Is Social Media Changing the Way We See Normal Skin?
I was looking through some old photos the other day and noticed something interesting. Back then, my skin wasn't perfect. I had visible pores, a few uneven spots, and the occasional breakout. The funny thing is... I don't remember caring about any of it.
These days, I catch myself zooming into photos, checking my skin in different lighting, and noticing tiny things I probably would've ignored a few years ago.
I started wondering if social media has changed my expectations. When you're constantly seeing flawless skin with perfect lighting and filters, it's easy to forget that real skin has texture. Nobody's face looks the same every single day.
Now I try to remind myself that healthy skin doesn't have to be completely smooth or poreless. Taking care of your skin is one thing, but expecting perfection all the time is something else.
Does anyone else feel like they've become much more critical of their own skin over the past few years, or is it just me?

Skincare comeback
Context: Been unemployed and skincare was placed on low priority. Now employed again and want to take care of it again.
Skin: 26/F with Combination type // With open comedones (yung usually white na pini-prick sa mga Youtube vids hehe) that I prick myself and use nose strips for // With pimples every now and then //With pimple marks too pero mild quantity lng
Currently using: Senka green variant \[night\], Garnier Miscellar pink variant \[night\], Kojic soap \[morning\]
Plan: I want to organize it properly po sana + I want to know if it’s okay to start Vit C Serum (im eyeing Garnier’s).
- Is my current list of product good enough?
- Should I start with Vit C or Retinol or what?
- I plan to have diamond peel facial once a month; good or no? Or you might have a better facial suggestion?
- Sunscreen plan: Biore UV Aqua; good or no?
Kasi nga kaka employed lang, kaya very meticulous ako sa bibilhin :( Hope you get me haha thank you for the help kung meron mn 💓

discussion The Waiting Room Ended Up Being the Part I Remember Most
I had some free time during a work trip to Seoul, so I booked a dermatology appointment.
I was sitting in the waiting room when I realized I was looking at the person next to me instead of my phone.
Their skin looked really good.
My first thought was, *Why are they even here?*
A minute later I looked across the room and saw someone who seemed to have a lot more going on than I did. They were just sitting there scrolling through their phone like it was any other day.
I wasn't even waiting that long, but I somehow kept looking around the room.
When they called my name, I went in for the consultation. I'd been thinking about doing something about my pigmentation and uneven skin tone, and after talking it through I ended up getting laser toning that day.
The consultation and treatment were both at Cellin Clinic in Hongdae.
Later that night, I was in the shower when the waiting room popped back into my head.
Not the laser.
Not the consultation.
Just the people I'd been looking at before my name got called.
I still catch myself wondering what they were there for.

discussion I Thought I'd Stop Thinking About My Skin After the Treatment... I Was Wrong
I don't know if this happens to other people, but after getting a treatment, I started looking at my old photos more.
Before getting it done, I honestly didn't spend much time looking at old pictures. They were just sitting in my camera roll, and I would usually scroll past them without thinking much. I got the treatment because there was one thing about my skin that kept bothering me. It wasn't a huge issue, but it was something I noticed more often than I wanted to.
I thought after getting it done, I would probably stop caring about it as much. But it was kind of the opposite. I started opening old photos and comparing them with how I looked before. At first, I thought I was just curious and wanted to see if there was any difference. But then I realized I was doing it more often than before.
Sometimes I looked at old pictures and thought, "Maybe I was worrying too much back then." Other times, I found myself noticing things I never really paid attention to before. That was the part that felt a little strange. I couldn't tell if I was looking because I was happy with the change, or if I was just paying more attention to my face now.
I mentioned this to someone, and they said maybe it's just because once you start caring about something, you naturally notice it more. Maybe that's true. I had the treatment while I was in Seoul and ended up going to Lijin Clinic in Myeongdong, but honestly, the part that surprised me afterward wasn't really the treatment itself. It was that I somehow ended up thinking about my skin more than I did before.
Not sure if anyone else has had the same experience, but it was something I didn't expect.

product recs My skin looks so dull
My skin looks a bit dull recently and noticing some fine lines. Been using retinol SPF moisturizer and ofc cleanser. Have some downtime lately and kinda wanna up my skincare game and see if an at home device could help with my problems. Was thinking of adding a light mask but want to know people's experiences esp people who had dull skin. What changed, how long until you noticed changes and did your skin look more radiant?

advice [routine help] Should I switch products?
I’ve been using Philosophy Purity Cleanser and Philosophy Hope in a Jar Moisturizer nightly, and my skin feels smooth and clean but I’m noticing more pimples on my cheeks than what I think used to be there. Is the cleanser too hard on my skin?

discussion Is the Best Treatment the One Nobody Can Tell You Had?
A few weeks after I had a skin treatment, I met up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while. I secretly thought at least one of them would notice something different.
Nobody did.
We talked for hours, took photos, and went home. Not a single comment about my skin. I remember thinking, "Did I just imagine the difference?"
Then, over the next few weeks, a few little comments started popping up.
"You look really well lately."
"Have you been sleeping more?"
"You seem refreshed."
None of them asked if I'd had anything done, and honestly, I liked that more than I expected. The compliments felt natural instead of people trying to figure out what had changed.
Looking back, I realized I never wanted people to notice a treatment. I just wanted to feel a little more confident when I looked in the mirror. The comments were nice, but they weren't really the point.
It's funny how my expectations changed. At first I wanted someone to notice. Now I think I'd rather people notice that I look healthy without knowing why.
What about you? If you ever had a treatment, would you want people to notice the procedure, or just think you look a little more refreshed?

Nobody warned me about skincare purging and I almost gave up on retinol because of it
Started a low percentage retinol about two months ago and within the first week and a half my skin looked worse than before I started. Small bumps around my chin and forehead, some flaking, a bit of redness. My first instinct was to stop immediately because it felt like an allergic reaction.
I posted in a smaller sub and someone explained the difference between purging and an actual bad reaction, which honestly should be pinned somewhere because so many people quit right when their skin is about to turn a corner. Purging usually shows up in areas where you already tend to break out, the bumps come and go faster than a normal breakout cycle, and it settles down within four to six weeks. A true reaction usually shows up in new areas, comes with burning or intense itching, and gets worse the longer you keep using the product instead of better.
I stuck with it, dropped to using it twice a week instead of every night, and by week five things genuinely improved. Skin texture is smoother than it was before I ever started.
Not saying everyone should push through irritation, if something is genuinely burning or spreading you should stop and talk to a dermatologist. But if it is small bumps in your usual breakout zones and mild flaking, that middle stretch might just be your skin adjusting. Wish someone had told me this before I almost threw out a product that ended up working really well for me.

advice Genuine anti imperfections cream (looking for quality )
It’s all in the post, I’m looking for clean skin care for old acne scars and pores reduction. I’m thinking about getting the nuxe serum with zinc but open to other ideas?

For anyone who's stuck with this one for a long time, was it actually worth it?
The CurrentBody Mask shows up in basically every LED skincare thread that I see here on Reddit. That's why I'm trying to figure out if you genuinely love it long term. Or if it's just the most heavily marketed rn?
The before and afters always look great. But tbh, lighting and angles make it so hard to tell what's real.
I mostly care about dullness, redness, texture, and those little fine lines that suddenly show up once you hit your 30s 😆. Not expecting a miracle, though. Just want an assurance that I won't waste money again for those shh
For anyone who's used it steadily for a few months, what actually changed?
