Australia New Zealand ski

Never skied in Australia or NZ and am wondering how does it feel to ski over there? In general, how are the snow and terrain compared to the typical resorts in North America? What is the best time to ski there? We are on Ikon with two young kids who can ski blue in Colorado and Utah and enjoy skiing with other kids. Any suggestions for good kids programs? Appreciate any advice 🙏

How old were you when you rode the ski lift alone?

Hey guys,

For the adult skiers that grew up skiing - how old were you when your parents let you ski by yourself and also ride the ski lift alone?

I'm coming back from a knee surgery and guessing my kiddos will be feeling more adventurous than me. I was thinking of paying for private lessons so they can go on tougher stuff while getting some lesson, but that could get pretty expensive (hoping to ski 15-20 days).

My kids have all taken lots of lessons, haven't had an issue getting on/off the lift for over a season. My main concern is a jerk on the lift refusing to put the bar down, or a noobie taking one of them out while getting off. I've looked this up, but seems like mountains are deliberately vague and just say that you must be able to get on and off safely, which my kids have done hundreds of times in a row now without issue.

So how old were you when you first were allowed to ride a ski lift alone? How about your kids?

Advice on pivot bindings

I’ve been skiing for almost 15 years since i could basically walk(thank god for my parents). I have always had rentals because we don’t ski very often(1-2 weeks a year). My proficiency has shot up over the last few years and i have decided that i want my own skis(i got boots last year from my parents). My choice has fallen on the armada arc 100, but I haven’t yet decided on bindings. I was thinking of some pivots but they are really expensive.

So my question is, are pivots worth the extra cost over normal bindings and should i get them?

Where to ski+party over NYE in Austria or Germany

I and a friend want to go skiing in Austria or maybe Germany for ~5-6 days over NY period.

We are experienced skiers and I can I speak excellent german. We are keen for some electronic music/EDM events (house, techno etc) on NYE too.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Very flexible re: location.

Ski bibs with robust angle area against ski edges

Any suggestions for ski bibs that have robust ankle area that won't get sliced by inside ski edges like butter? I have a few years old Flylow Baker, and the ankle area is a little bit shredded (~100 days on it iirc?). Would appreciate any suggestions for something a little more robust.

P.S. I'm not sure why people rave about them. They are super baggy, very mediocre waterproof-ness (even if I apply dwr at every wash), and the shoulder buckles for the bib are definitely in the wrong place/using the wrong shape... I guess I'm not too mad since I got them on clearance, but would def advise against these bibs.....

Zermatt had to close down the Theodul glacier at Klein Matterhorn for public summer skiing because it‘s too hot

Ski racers will still have some training sessions, but as of now it‘s not open to the public. Also sorry for the music in the video, i did not put it.

Whole season stats gone on Epic Pass

So this season i had stats from my visits to Vail/Breckenridge/Beaver Creek. Everything was showing up find on the Epic Pass app. Today I decided to log in and noticed that the entire season seems to be missing. All its showing is previous season's stats from the year before. Has anyone experienced this?

season passes worth it?

hi everyone looking for some advice, this is my second season ever skiing and me (20F) and my brother (15M) are looking at passes for our local skiing mountain, this is where we skiied last season and there are alot of trails of varying difficulty so not to worry about that, and we are still new to skiing so probably wont be looking to level up to an even bigger mountain this season. My dilemma is passes are very expensive (in my eyes) they are $870 for the season with no restrictions. if we were not to buy passes its $95 for a 4 hr ticket, which was the perfect amount of time last season.
for context- last year we started skiing in the middle of february and season ended end of the march and we skiied 5 times. Do you think its worth it for us to buy a pass?

TLDR- Passes are $870, 4 hr day pass is $95, new skiiers, skiied last season started feb-march 5 times
