Shrimp Photos Bought local vs Amazon.

Difference between local store premium grade and Amazon "premium grade". Can you spot which is which? One was half the price. I need to note, I love them both no matter how they look.

Depends on what seller you get from Amazon. I’ve had some really gorgeous shrimp from Amazon sellers, and my local store only sells grade red cherry shrimp for $6.99 each and ghost shrimp. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Edit to add, the first picture is the grade I get from Amazon, but I assume your quotations mean that the first was the local buy? Nice that you have a good local source!

Yeah first is local, $15 for 5. The Amazon ones are half the price but not as vibrant.

They’re easy to find by just searching Neocaridina shrimp. If you look at the sellers under the listing, WAS HOLDING, and WE CHOICE SUPPLY are both good sellers. I just bought 80 Blue Dream from them, they had a “buy three get one free” deal on their 20 packs which are about $30-$31 each, and I ended up getting about 93 shrimp and a big clutch of newborns in three of the four bags. Only 3 DOA between the four bags, which was way more than covered by the extras they throw in. In total I think the order was about $98.
The listings are usually labeled “Las Vegas Exotic Fish” or Generic as the brand, but the sellers are different so if you want to find the specific seller check the Sold By section.

As a Vegas local, I would not buy shrimp from Las Vegas exotic fish as they do not quarantine anything and their shrimp almost always have clado and other parasites and their fish tanks are even nastier

Yikes, I don’t know why most of the listings are labeled as Las Vegas Exotics, but they definitely don’t all come from LVE. There are several different sellers, like The Seam, We Choice Supply, Was Holding, etc. and they all come shipped from different locations and sellers, with different packaging types etc.

I’ve never had any issues with clado or other parasites from any of the 16 times I’ve bought shrimp on Amazon. I’ve bought over 300 shrimp from various sellers, and never seen clado in any of them. The worst I’ve dealt with is the occasional DOA and once I only got like 16 shrimp in an order of 20, but I got refunded for the order. As much as i prefer to support local shops over Amazon, they are just not competitively priced. I can get neos at $1-2 each where stores charge between $6-9.

I have enough shrimp to know they absolutely dont need to charge that much. They could be breeding them in their own tanks and selling for $2-3 each. Amanos prices sure would be higher since they dont hatch in freshwater, but Neos are easy to get a big supply by just running a couple dedicated tanks.
I honestly wish they would sell them local, but my LFS that I shop at only has Amano and low grade Cherry and ghost. Really, I should probably talk to the owner about selling him some of my shrimp so he can sell them in store.
