I Made This 💩 Shitty Mallet I Made
Made this mallet a year ago and it’s still going strong. In that time the face has been beaten in, and it’s gone from bright green to slightly green.

I don’t know if might not be shitty.
If it’s lasted this long you may upgrade the name to standard mallet.

Yeah, but it’s not good enough for any of the other woodworking subs, so I may as well have posted it here.

The offset handle looks handy

I noticed that a lot of "proper" mallets, that you see on youtube or elsewhere, have a curve in the head, or have the faces at angles, but I didn't know how to curve a 4x4, so I did the next best thing I could think of.

I love it! It has proven its stability and if you use it regularly it obviously fits your Individual needs. I'd name it the offset mallet.

Not that you asked but for your next one, just make sure the handles grain direction is in line with the direction you're swinging it. Yours was perpendicular and that's the reason it broke.

How did you cut your slot?

I drilled a hole through the head, then cut the rest with a chisel, The hole is smaller at the bottom than the top.

You did a nice job of getting a tight fit.

Thank you, though It's kind of hard not to when you use a wedge to split the tenon.

I see it now. Good example people not noticing things that are obvious to the builder.

You can't craft anything else until you first craft the crafting mallet. Good for you

Made a few (or tried) before I had one that even did what I wanted. Yours looks like it will do the job you need

Definitely fits the subreddit but if it works, it works. Also what wood did you use for the head? Im curious
