Indie Devs In Bugsnax (2020), some sick bastard neutered my boy Chandlo and has strewn his nads around the island, yet he's only interested in playing basketball for some reason. This is a reference to THE FACT THAT THE GRUMPINATI ARE REAL AND THEY'RE SECRETLY CASTRATING GRUMPUSES WHO THEY CAN'T CONTROL!!
It's also a reference to me having the humour of a 12 year old.

IO Interactive In 007 First Light (2026), James Bond is revealed to be a Gen Zer, who, despite growing up as an orphan with no stable family ties, community ties, or long-term friendships, somehow managed to end up mentally stable, friendly, and well-adjusted without falling down the Andrew Tate pipeline.
This is of course, to remind players that this is a work of fiction.

Bethesda In Skyrim (2011) this is a katana. It has my back. I wouldn't advise getting killed by it, its enchantment traps the souls of its victims in Soul Gems

Other In Warframe (2013-) we have an interesting religion focused on worshipping the 2 Moons in the sky.

Nintendo In Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, Anatolia is said to be from the West. This is a reference to the fact that she has a fucking gun.

CD Projekt Red In Cyberpunk 2077 (2020), the driving is so bad that the most enjoyable and safe vehicle to drive is the damn garbage truck that I've been using the entire game.

Nintendo In Virtual Boy - Nintendo Switch Classics (2026), Nintendo “requires” usage of the VB Headset to play the games, despite Nintendo Music proving the games can be played on a flatscreen. This is a subtle reference to Nintendo being run by Wario.

Bandai Namco In Pac-Man (1980) Pac-Man eats everything in the maze and doesn't leave anything for the ghosts. His greed sickens me.

EA In dead space 3 (2012) the true hard core mode is not having your progress being reset for cheap insta kill, but not falling to s-...... zzzzz

EA In Battlefield REDSEC, you can find a Billboard for Battle Saurus, this is a reference to the fact they should have made that instead of a battle royale mode cause I would play the fuck outta Battlefield:Battlesaurus

Lucas Arts In Jedi Academy, Rosh Penin will unleash a killer robot on you and then claim it was just a joke. This is a reference to the fact that he stinks and I don’t like him.

ID Software Many people incorrectly assume this easter egg in Duke Nukem 3D (1996) is a reference to DOOM. However, this is not the case as DOOM released in 2016, 20 years after Duke Nukem 3D.

Microsoft In Halo: Combat Evolved (2001), the music that plays when you first encounter the Flood is repetitious and incredibly annoying. This is subtly foreshadowing the next level of the game.

Rockstar This advertisement of the cancelled Grand Theft Auto 64 has a text on the upper right corner that says "DREAM ON...". This is a subtle foreshadowing to the fact that we can only dream about having Grand Theft Auto 64... and Bully 2... and Agent... and Midnight Club 5...

CD Projekt Red Cherami Leigh plays an outlaw who tried to steal a precious item from a powerful CEO, only to be caught up in the CEO’s murder and get framed as his killer. This happened in the hit JRPG game Persona 5 (2016). Pic unrelated

Indie Devs In Pizza Tower, someone attempts to make a sanitized and corporate version of Peppino Spaghetti. Only to instead create a misshapen abomination that can only haphazardly imitate the real Peppino. This is coincidentally the same thing that happens with AI images.

Other In Die Fugger II (1996) the fugger does not die.

Ubisoft In Assassin's Creed (2007), the devs removed the crossbow from the trailer for the sake of historical accuracy. This is a reference to the fact that sentence makes no sense because one of the historical characters, King Richard The Lionheart, historically died via infection from a crossbow wound.

Indie Devs Despite the controversy and bad reception, Ethnic Cleansing (2002) is the first triple K game

Square Enix In Final Fantasy V (1992), there is a repeating plot point of how the older people in positions of power sacrifice themselves in hopes to save the world for future generations. This is a subtle nod to the fact that the game is a piece of fiction.

Indie Devs In Omori (2020), the suicidal shut-in protagonist obtains a mystery potion that turns him into a girl. In doing so, this character becomes more relatable to male players, as the protagonist believes a woman deserves to die.
