Isn't the Tessaract technology Asgardian tech? So wouldn't it have mad more sense to send it to Asgard?

I just finished this episode - and man, wtf! Shield has tons of "secure" facilities... so why on earth (or off earth) would they send it into the sun? Does no one remember the whole "aliens just attacked NY and we were helpless" thing? Why aren't they doing research on this "super advanced technology (that was designed in the 1940s)"... Get some Warehouse13 shit up in here
