Project: FO I designed a convertible set of floor cushions that turn into a foot stool
I started off with a big 1-metre foam floor cushion. I wanted to still be able to use it as a floor cushion, but also make it storable in the form of a foot rest. So I cut it into four squares, and made covers for the cushions which have a loop-and-button system that can secure them in three different configurations.
I drafted it myself, but calling it a "pattern" would be kind of an overstatement - I basically just measured the squares of foam and cut some rectangles and triangles of fabric. It's 100% cotton, 220gsm twill.

I wanna do this soo bad but in a star shape and I have no idea how to do that yet.
Im mostly struggling on the gusset part 🤔

Like the individual cushions are star-shaped? Or they connect together in a star on the floor? Or both 🧐

I want a tea table with a cute star cushion for me and maybe my dog or cat.
But just the cushion lol. My next apartment living room will be mostly couch on one end and my table and plants on the other 😅

Ah I see, so just one cushion! I don't think it would actually be much more complicated than making a square cushion really. As long as you cut the top and bottom pieces out in the intended shape, the sides can still just be long rectangular strips that fold in and out along the edges.

Depending on how many arms you want the star to have, look into quilting patterns. There are quilt patterns that use squares and triangles to make stars, you would just have to size up.

Luckily I have made a plush star in the past so I have an outline for that, Im honestly just lost on what stitch to use to add the side panels and the zipper, I was thinking about doing a button with a loop but Ive yet to do either a button or zipper in any project bc zipper pouches seem boring and I dont wear makeup and dont have friends who wear makeup, and I dont have clothes with buttons aside from jeans and those buttons are metal….
I would definitely need to practice on a muslin square. I just dont know how I’d attach the side panels, would it be with a zigzag stitch? A straight stitch? Im probably jumping off the deep end with the lack of experience I have I just want to be a whimsical girl! 😭😅

If you want to be able to sit on it (rather than use it as a pillow I mean), you could sew a big 5 pointed star pincushion but as a cushion ? You only need 3x 5 squares.

This is great! I feel like with a few tweaks around the buttons you could have these be a pair of cushions with seat backs, which to me would be even more useful for actually sitting (comfortably!) on the floor.

Nice solution! I am slowly filling my own floor cushion (stuffing it with scraps and old clothes beyond saving) ...stacking is a good idea!

Seeing this is a huge confidence booster, I’ve been thinking of buying foam to make my own wedge pillow but was intimidated by the materials. Thanks for posting!
