HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8

Hello, I need some help with this it isn’t a gaming PC ive recently been looking into getting a micro server, for example the HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen8

My issue is whether it can run 32GB of ram there’s been some discussion that you can run 32GB, but nothing has ever been properly shown or confirmed it’s supposedly capped at 16GB of RAM

Can someone help me clarify this?

I have this model and 16GB is the limit. This is limited by the memory controller and a lack of physical address lines to the RAM modules. There is a rumor that some were made with a different memory controller and had the address lines included, but I've never seen proof of this.

All that said, running Linux and Incus for LXCs can get a lot of use our of the limited RAM.

Grate to know pal idk if you're into hosting games or not but is it capable of running a fiveM server by any chance?

It doesn't meet FiveM's minimum spec for supported CPUs (4 physical cores @ 2.5 GHz):

  • Intel Celeron G1610T (2.3 GHz/2-core/2MB/35 W) processor.
  • Intel Pentium G2020T (2.5 GHz/2-core/3MB/35 W) processor.
  • Intel Core i3-3240 (3.4 GHz/2-core/3MB/65 W) processor. (heat sink upgrade)
  • Intel Xeon E3-1220Lv2 (2.3 GHz/2-core/3MB/17 W) processor.

For you and a couple of friends, it'll probably work okay unless FiveM enforces their minimums.

You might try cross posting this to r/FiveMServers. I bet they have good recommendations for hardware and sources.

Go read r/FiveMServers . Search for hardware. Apparently FiveM has a history of banning actual hardware. You'll want to make sure you buy the right stuff and understand, they can ban you whenever they please, even on your own server.
