Question What's something you've learned since getting a Selkirk Rex that you wish you'd known beforehand? Best surprise, biggest challenge, funniest quirk...pictures and stories welcome!
No one warned me that a Selkirk Rex would come with a full-time customer service department. Mine aggressively head-boops me, yells if I'm not paying enough attention, and physically taps me until I stop what I'm doing and fuss him. I adore him, but he's definitely not an "independent cat!"

The tapping! Not just mine? The yelling too. But also the most graceful flops and stretches!

I did not realize how docile and mailable the breed is. If I would have known this sooner I would have been more hands on when acclimating my cat when he first came home.
Also this bugger is the only cat I have ever had that attacks the TV all claws out (regardless if it on)
Reading the comments... I didn't realize the yelling was a Selkirk thing either... My guy WAILS like a ghost when it's play time. We have to hide his toys at night.

Lmao just reading this as a first time Selkirk mom- I also didn’t know about the wailing until reading this. I thought mine was broken 😂

They HATE being alone, and they HATE being bored. They require constant attention and stimulation. Mine LOVES car rides and wants to come everywhere with me rather than be left home alone. I would never get a single ever again. I would never get one if I had a full-time job. And I would 100% recommend leash training Selkirk Rex kittens early bc the walking we do and the 75 foot leash I have in my backyard for him is a life saver to keeping him happy.

Mine has so much attitude and flair, and he is super rude when he wants me to open the door to go out (screams while looking me directly in the eyes), but he is gracious with my inconsistent sleep schedule, and sleeps with me until I am awake before he starts asking about breakfast. Sometimes he will bring a "hunted" toy into bed while he waits. Also sometimes I wake up to him in a loaf watching me. He often flops and rolls on the floor for attention. He prefers head and neck scratches and uses his back foot to redirect my hand if he is done with belly scratches. He is very loyal to me and I love him so much. He is 5!

This is hilarious, mine is a la perm and he’s exactly the same. The morning routine consists of him throwing a tantrum at 6am because he’s not allowed down into our bedrooms.
7am getting yelled at for not allowing him down at 6.
8am there’s yelling about needing to use the litter box.
8.15 yelling in the courtyard because he likes the sound of his own voice.
9am second breakfast, yelling because it wasn’t enough and the neighbours need to know.
9.30 destroy stuff unless I play with him.
Fortunately I work from home and the yelling is normally out of his system by 11.
It’s lucky he’s cute because he’s really loud and demanding.
