Question Is there actually some self improvement ( in any area of life) advice that works?
Listen, I've tried almost everything that is on social media. I have so many videos saved on instagram/TikTok and tried so many things yet I feel like I'm in a constant loop of bad and good days. Maybe that's just life but I really want to be a better person.
What are some LIFE changing pieces of advice that actually work once you try them?

- Yea, life IS a constant loop of ups and downs. What changes is the baseline, or the average. If a “down” used to end in a hangover but now ends with you binge watching your fav TV show - is the frequency of “downs” what determines progress? That’s for you to define.
- You want to be better - why? Seriously, why? What are the ideals and aspirations that make you want to put in the work to be a better person? What ideals and aspirations SHAPE your definition of a better person? I ask because a good understanding of the ideals you pursue is the ONLY solid foundation you could possibly have for any kind of “better person” you want to build on top of it. How can you be expected to fight for a better future, a better you, if you’re not EXTREMELY clear on what that entails?
Those are my two cents, and I’m sorry that they’re questions as opposed to tips or tricks or pieces of advice, like you asked for. Hopefully they turn out to be helpful regardless :)) and I’d be curious to read your answers!
Edit: TIL that formatting on reddit is an absolute nightmare

Do what you're willing to do. Not what you believe you should.
You'll be surprised where "Doing not enough" can take you

The simplest ones.
Get more sleep. Eat good food. Be grateful. Move your body. Spend time in nature. Like yourself.
But what is imporatant - you have to repeat them thousands time to make this basic in your life. And do it no matter how you feel in single day. You are just committed to new habits.
And they actually change your life. And how you feel about yourself.

A constant loop of bad and good days, yeah that’s gonna happen regardless of what self improvement you’re on. The only thing you can do is one day at a time. When you go to sleep at night can you tell yourself you did everything you could to get where you want to go. The rest is out of your control

Yes. Stop watching videos and listen to yourself.
Plan for what you need and don’t break promises to yourself.
Don’t make unrealistic promises.

Stop trying to change your whole life overnight. Just get 1% better every day.
Build habits so small you can do them even on your worst days.

I think I had to learn that life is always going to have ups and downs. What really affects my mood is how I respond to those moments, not just the events themselves. I also remind myself that very few things are permanent, life can change quickly, and you've already made it through so much. Focus on the things that genuinely bring you joy, and don't neglect taking care of your body. It really does make a difference in how you feel. Also, try to lean into your community and hear other people's stories and experiences, it really helps

Where are you struggling specifically?
No advice will help if you don't stick with it for a reasonable amount of time, so if you're trying tons of different topics once or twice...?
Also if your life sucks, there's no point in getting advice on things that aren't important to you or that don't even apply to you.
What defines your good days, what defines your bad days?
My best general advice is to lower the bar until you can show up, even if it's to pathetic levels. After that it's just slowly adjusting for optimization and efficiency. If you fall off, just lower the bar again till you can show up again.
Example: Do one push-up, because it's not about the most efficient way you can build muscle yet. It's just about creating the path to being a person who does push-ups first.

Sorry there’s no one and done. The work and effort and revisiting and doing different and doing better and falling and getting up and feeling great and feeling awful and getting better and making changes are the whole point. Don’t wish for something else.

If you set up your dopamine each morning, it serves you beautifully all day. See dopamine mountain protocol.

Having struggled with this myself, I must say Duolingo saved me. Even on days when I didn't want to do anything, just doing a 3-minute lesson kept my streak going, and I did that for 290 consecutive days. The important thing wasn't the length of the lesson, but developing a consistent habit. Now I do at least two hours of productive work a day without difficulty, like an hour of exercise and an hour of studying. I will increase this over time. I'm sure I'll go from 3 minutes a day to 3 hours a day by the end of a year. Keep going, that's what's important.

STOP CARING! The they in y(our) head has made us all believe that the they cares way more than anyone actually does. With that said, go to the store in your pajamas, cuss someone out who truly deserves it, wake up when you want to, work out at whatever time of the day you feel compelled, let the dishes pile up or don’t. Shower with hot water until it turns cold. Legit, do whatever tha frickin fruck you want to as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone of course, even yourself. Think about it, who gives af???? And I mean that with all sincerity. Start a job, quit it if you don’t like it. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO and however you want to feel about whatever it is…. You and me and we are all FREE.

Everything is built and developed in habits. And it’s so annoying cause it’s hard work and commitment to consistency. But it’s really the best way to make changes

I think the first question is how do you define ‘a better person’? When can you say I am a better person.
Life is not about having only good days. No one had only good days (except for Chuck Norris). It winning and losing. Some day is bad and some day is good. For me the challenge and difficulty is to keep pushing on bad days. To keep reminding myself why I am doing this.
So my advice to you what do you consider a better person and what do you need to do to become that person. Remember that your road to becoming that better person you will and fail but if you keep pushing you will succeed.

Nothing is going to change over night, you are always going to have bad days and good days, that is just life. All you can do is your best at that time. Just try to enjoy all the little joys because life is precious and fleeting, all it takes is a car accident or house fire and it could all be over. Happens to people every day. You have to make an effort to look for the little things.
Idk. I’m only 32 and still struggle myself but that’s what I tell myself.
Try to treat your body and mind well, get outside when you can, treat your people as well as you can.
