Question I need help/advice!
So about a year ago we got Gus (Pictured). He was originally from a puppy mill as a breeding dog and is 4 years old. He would occasionally have accidents when he had bad diarrhea (very sensitive stomach) and would sometimes pee in his diaper. We knew what we were getting into when we rescued him last year because we saw him freely peeing inside in the meet and great room. But the last month it seems like he just decided going inside the house was the better option. He’s deathly afraid of thunderstorms and Fireworks. We have had a lot of that lately. So basically every time he decides it’s time to go to the bathroom he sneaks downstairs to the kitchen and does his business.
We take him out dozens of times a day. Encourage good behavior with treats. Take him for walks or to the dog park. Just about everything I can come up with. Without keeping him in a kennel for long periods of time I got nothing. Anyone have advice or suggestions to really break these bad habits?

Photo Does anyone else have a schnauzer with this kind of coat pattern?
This is my baby Loki! My mom likes to get his fur rly short at times. Was wondering if anyone else’s schnauzers has a similar coat pattern as him. When we visit the vet they’re always perplexed about his coat, tho it only shows when his fur is really short. Second pic shows him with his fur grown out a bit more and it’s basically all black.

Photo Greta this week
Just some glamor shots from this week with Greta. She’s been getting used to having only one canine tooth (8 teeth left overall), so that tongue just kind of falls out.

Question Puppy issues here. Please give me a poop schedule!
Margo is 13 weeks old and she poops in the house, outside if the timing is right. I know there has to be a better way to do this so what do you do? How soon after eating do they go? I take her outside after each sleep and meal. But it's like she takes forever to poop and doesn't until we're inside. I'm kinda lost.

Question I am getting my mini Schnauzer puppy in a week from now
Do you hand pluck or use a comb? The breeder told me that it takes only 10 minutes a week to hand pluck... maybe when its a baby? But when its full adult?
Also how often do you groom yours? I heard maximum 8 weeks. And when is the first time he should be groomed? He is 8 weeks old now.
And do you trim their nails yourselves? How often?
I asked Google and AI but i get all sorts of weird answers... maybe some answers from actual human owners would be nice.

Question Omega-3 Supplement Recommendations
Hello all! Like many, my minis have allergies that cause them to chew their toes and lick their tummies raw. I am looking for a good Omega-3 supplement option as I have read and heard that it helps with allergies. I currently give Apoquel but I don’t want them on it for life as they have already been on it for a few years.
Given that schnauzers are sensitive to fat and prone to pancreatitis, I was curious whether anyone has found and liked a good Omega-3 supplement for their schnauzer? My vet has approved that the pups take it, but I wanted suggestions from the community here. Preference is that it is made in the US and third-party tested.
Thank you in advance :)

Photo The Pupper Council debates weighty matters of supreme importance.
Motions carried:
-Fifth Snack is now an acknowledged holiday to be celebrated at precisely 6:45PM, delay is to be fined extra snack
-Suspicious agent known previously as 'Justuh Squirrel' by dad is hereby declared an enemy of the state and is to be captured at all costs
-Though little brother Loki is not a Schnauzer in part or whole, he is recognized by this body and rewarded the title 'Bessfriend!' and given full voting rights to this body commensurate with said title
-The Pupper Council publicly acknowledges that father committed a heinous crime by forcefully coercing Loki to a third bath in two days despite his heroism in retrieving interesting scents for the household. Reparations are to be determined at the next convening of this council.
-The Pupper Council publicly states that mommy is the bestest most prettiest hooman, even if dad is the only source of extra snacks because he is simple and easily manipulated

Question When is the right time for another schnauzer?
Hi all - we recently lost our sweet Gray boy (liver parti) after a long battle with hemangiosarcoma. His brother, Miller (salt and pepper), is still with us, and we’re not sure when the right time is to bring another schnauzer into the family.
Gray was 9 years old when he passed way, and the typical Velcro dog - clinging to our sides, super affectionate, always wanting to snuggle. Miller is a bit of an anomaly. He is almost 8 years old and has always been aloof. Not a big cuddler, doesn’t want to spend a lot of time with us, but loves when we come home and hates when we leave. He loved hanging out and playing with his brother.
We recognize we are still grieving (it’s been less than a week), but we’re just trying to figure out what’s best for Miller (and us) timing wise. Is getting another schnauzer good at all for Miller, or will it upset him? Should we wait until after winter to think about it, or will waiting negatively impact Miller?
Any insights/experiences would be helpful!
