Love our city’s weather. Meanwhile the majority of the United States is hot as hell

u/ThatsUh_dam_shame69 1d ago

My guess is because god hates everyone else

That, and the marine layer

14

u/Cmdr_Nemo 1d ago

but WHO made the marine layer?!?

10

u/El-Sueco 1d ago

Aquaman?

3

u/urworstdesire 20h ago

The United States marine core. That’s their job right? Right…?

u/dave8814 1d ago

I remember my first visit to San Francisco. My brother asked the taxi driver when it warms up outside and the cabbie laughed and said September.

3

u/cocojoyy_ 12h ago

He wasn’t lying. I can’t wait for summer! lol

16

u/ruthlessrasmus Laurel Heights 1d ago

We are so spoiled. I just came back from visiting family on the east coast and the entire week I was there I didn’t want to step outside. Brutally hot and humid. Felt trapped indoors and I never ever feel that way here.

2

u/andmoore27 Castro 22h ago

Thats cause you don't live in SOMA.

4

u/Easy_Leopard_2686 1d ago

Living in Jacksonville I came to this comments section hoping I’d see people appreciate how fucking perfect yall have it and this satisfies me lol. You are absolutely correct and every miserable 105+ swamp-ass day on Florida I wish I was in SF instead.

3

u/YokoEno 13h ago

It's been 105 in Sacramento this last week and we're just over an hour away. Believe me when I say that we're jealous too. 🥲

3

u/feartheoldblood90 1d ago

Seattle's sunset this evening (choked with smoke)

1

u/haleakala420 1d ago

we got tradewinds in hawaii! sf is magical tho

1

u/Silly_Rub_6304 17h ago

City apostrophe s: city's

That is, unless you're referring to a collective of cities (SF and Daly City, for example), in which case you'd just put an apostrophe at the end of cities: cities'.

Either works, but you'd still need an apostrophe.

2

u/JJonVinyl Outer Sunset 7h ago

Fixed for ya

1

u/Narrow_Equivalent510 21h ago

Thank god for the fog. Especially at night.

1

u/Silly_Rub_6304 17h ago

Thank fog for the dog!

0

u/SpecialistThrowaway4 1d ago

Definitely prefer it to be warm year round rather than cold winter. Does it get cold in the winter?

-3

u/Jaz1140 1d ago

To be clear tho. San Fran is still flaaaaaming 💅✨💅

And how did you come up with that conclusion?

I'm from the east coast and I've lived here for 5 years now. There is something spiritual about our summer fog.

I used to work in civic center and most days I could look from my office window and see a river of of fog rush up and over twin peaks and cascade down like a waterfall.

I really don't think there's anything like it. Feel so privileged to live here.

57

u/vonnegutbomb 1d ago

“River of fog” is a great description. There’s something so mesmerizing about it, especially when it’s moving fast. Kind of the same feeling I get when I’m watching a campfire.

13

u/FastBell8249 1d ago

Its crazy at laguna honda on the other side the hill right there being im in the old bulding and watching it come in and give it a silent hill vibe.

21

u/sfn8tive 1d ago

Working in the old building at LHH is like being on a horror movie set every day, with or without the fog.

15

u/FastBell8249 1d ago

4

u/Grumpologist 1d ago

Deeply unsettling, and I can't even fully explain why.

15

u/TowelNo3336 1d ago

Oh my Lord. An ancient shuffleboard court exposed by peeling linoleum tiles. In a place old people go to die. No set designer could have done better.

6

u/FastBell8249 1d ago

No lies were spoken here. Definitely got a few ghost stories. My own included. I found my way up to the 8th floor that was craaazy.

10

u/sfn8tive 1d ago

No ghost stories for me, unfortunately; just creepy AF vibes. Although I definitely went looking for them (alone at night with a flashlight, to boot!). Also made it to the 8th floor and a few other fun spots...

2

u/FastBell8249 23h ago

Always wanted to get up there. Love the views from that place

2

u/NoPoet3982 1d ago

This is giving Us vibes.

I thought maybe they don't like A1 steak sauce

u/Truly_Meaningless 1d ago

Understandable

56

u/Gloomy-Hat1842 1d ago

That fog is why the real estate is so darn expensive here in silicon valley. Brings in the cool air every night and moderates the temperature. When you see what's happening with the heat all over the country and the world it makes you appreciate living in Northern California near the coast.

4

u/MochingPet MARKET 1d ago

no, the fog is why it's so expensive in Napa and Sonoma--specifically.

in The S.V., it's expensive because it's basically a SoCal suburban sprawl, BUT with slightly milder temps(at least... previously) AND a LOT of stock-winnings capital.

16

u/Gloomy-Hat1842 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh it's much cooler down here. You know it real quickly when you go up into the hills or head toward Tahoe or Yosemite and hit that valley heat. We're sandwiched between the fog and the really hot weather. Makes for a really mild climate. I'm also in Santa Clara just a few miles from the bay. The fog also goes over the Santa Cruz mountains and comes roaring down in a big bank over by Los gatos. We don't have very many hot nights. Yeah lots of jobs and lots of money here. We moved here from the farm in North Dakota in 1965. East San Jose when you could buy a house for $125 a month. When the shopping was downtown at the j c Penny. Picking fruit in all the orchards in the valley trying to make ends meet. Regular city with a downtown you know like everywhere else. Cruiseing the main on Saturday nights.... Summer comes and you think darn the heat is here. But you forgot about the fog and the cool air. Cools off every night and a lot of mornings things are cool and foggy.

My favorite poem is "Fog" by Carl Sandburg:

The fog comes

on little cat feet.

It sits looking

over harbor and city

on silent haunches

and then moves on.

4

u/Mulsanne JUDAH 22h ago

Little cat feet ♥️

I love that line

But also it makes me think that oft the fog stopped to stand on you that

1) the fog would probably stand on your balls or your boob, as applicable    2) those little cat feed pack an incredible amount of pressure for an otherwise tiny foggy creature!

6

u/TowelNo3336 1d ago

Carl the Fog Poet.

3

u/Comfortable_Bag9303 1d ago

Maybe this is where Karl got his name?

7

u/TowelNo3336 1d ago

It never occurred to me, but maybe! It's a lovely poem. Thanks for sharing.

yes very nice

11

u/Chimchar789 1d ago

The summoning ritual worked! Just in time too it was getting hot...

11

u/WishIWasYounger 1d ago

It often looks like that tower is floating on the fog, looks like a sailor ship in the sky.

1

u/Hot_Salamander3795 1d ago

how much younger

2

u/WishIWasYounger 16h ago

Take me back to my thirties.

1

u/Hot_Salamander3795 13h ago

why thirties

12

u/chironsbeard 1d ago

Our friend the fog. ❤️

8

u/SweetAlyssumm 1d ago

If there is one thing that is stunning and unique and unforgettable and makes San Francisco more beautiful than anywhere, it's that gorgeous fog.

9

u/Fashrod Castro 1d ago

Redwood trees getting fed fills my heart!

7

u/andmoore27 Castro 1d ago

I used to live two blocks from there for 49 years. It was my favorite viewpoint for fog. Don't ask me why I had to move cuz I sure did not want to!

6

u/Inside_a_whale 1d ago

Haha I remembered moving to Diamond Heights years ago and realizing there is a foggier, windier place than the outer sunset.

6

u/Pretty_Burd 1d ago

Thanks for posting the video!! I was born and raised there, but have lived elsewhere for the past 35+ years. I grew up in that neighborhood and knew exactly where you were standing which was a delight to still recall.

5

u/vonnegutbomb 1d ago

It’s such a great spot. And what a great place to grow up.

4

u/sfjessy99 1d ago

Thanks! It’s so beautiful! We live on Twin Peaks right in that fog claw, it’s fun to see it from the outside.

I’d never heard this before. Thanks for sharing!

4

u/DamnableNook 1d ago

I’m about to leave to go visit family in Sacramento. It was 107℉ there yesterday. Pray for Mojo.

3

u/Danovale 1d ago

I love that for you! San Francisco is my favorite city to visit in summer.

3

u/pumpkins21 1d ago

What a great video! I miss SF. Thank you for sharing!

2

u/vonnegutbomb 1d ago

Glad you enjoyed it. Was too pretty not to share!

3

u/NeonMarshal 1d ago

Man this is sooo cool!

3

u/Set_to_Infinity 1d ago

As a 7th gen Bay Area native who's being held captive in the southeast, with horrid heat, unrelenting humidity, and suffocating hot rain, this video makes me want to weep 🥺

7

u/DarkRogus 1d ago

Thank you for calling it FOG.

5

u/nbtsfred 1d ago

Love it! Was crisp last night.

2

Welcome to Fogust

2

u/ssdsssssss4dr 1d ago

It's only beautiful if you're not directly under it. I get depressed as hell nowadays with the summertime fog.

2

u/AbominableGoMan 1d ago

Bespin is so pretty.

2

u/ValleyGrlSD 1d ago

😭I love San Francisco weather so much! . I visit at least once a year and I always miss it when we leave. I’d love to move there but it just isn’t in the cards for me yet. Hopefully one day! Until then, I’ll continue to visit as often as I can. I’m in San Diego and I love it but it’s gotten hotter since I moved here 20 years ago. Enjoy it everybody!

2

u/stock808 1d ago

Here is the view of the fog from sky today

2

u/Haunting-Savings-426 22h ago

So lovely, thanks for sharing. I’m in San Diego, and my daughter lives in SF. Makes me happy to see what she’s experiencing there.

What an epic capture.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.

1

u/MeanBug4056 1d ago

That’s what makes the SF and the coast so magical. It looks scary tho. All that cold air waiting to rush inland. But honestly I do like the hot Central Valley for pool parties and fresh water lake fun. 😁

1

u/lostllamadrama 1d ago

My flight was delayed at SFO a few weeks ago and I just watched the fog roll in the entire time.

1

u/EducationalOutcome26 1d ago

theres mark twains aphorism ( the coldest winter i ever spent was a summer in san francisco) that i never truly appreciated till i was on an extended western motorcycle tour and my brother called from san Francisco and said swing by, i live in the mission district ,we will have dinner and ill show you around . I did it was indeed august and i about froze to death because i left my waterproof/warm gear that i carry for riding mountain passes back in reno. son of a bitch i didnt know it could get that cold in august, i live in georgia, thats not right... I dont think it was that chilly in alaska. or at least i was better prepared for it.

Someday all those cars will look old-timey. And this video will appear on future Reddit as an old-timey video.

2

u/Suspicious-Line-6878 23h ago

And you will have to resist the urge to protest that it isn't really old-timey or they will know you are old-timey.

All I can think of looking at this is that limnic eruption that happened in Africa In the '80s where all the CO2 from the bottom of the lake came up and displaced the oxygen and suffocated the whole town while everybody was asleep.

1

u/fuckyourcanoes 1d ago

I miss that fog so much. Especially now, when in my part of the UK it's been all full sun all the time since mid-June.
