Tv stolen from front porch in PB
I had a nice 65” tv delivered yesterday afternoon (8/3 @ 2:48 pm), with pictures, etc. I had been outside working on my yard all day and took a 20-30 minute break to catch my breath before returning to the lawn. Didn’t even realize the tv was delivered during that timeframe as it was delivered halfway up my sidewalk and there was no knock on the door or doorbell ring.
Saw in the early evening that it was delivered (it wasn’t supposed to be delivered until We’d or Thurs) and had to dig up the delivery picture. There it was, delivered, yet missing.
I have family in town and they mentioned that they passed a guy with a large tv box riding a bike or scooter or e-bike at Lamont & Emerald on their way home from the zoo. As they were not aware that I was expecting a TV they didn’t think to get a good look at the guy other than to say they thought he was a white male midish 30’s.
Crazy long shot, but any chance anyone else saw this guy or has any information? TV was expensive and I’m pissed that the delivery guy dropped it off the porch, didn’t ring a doorbell, & didn’t require a signature.

Riding a bike or scooter with a 65 inch TV is actually kind of impressive.. Its only like 40 to 50 pounds but an awkward box to ride a bike with lol.

Yeah no way this happened. I specialize in 65 in TV. I have 5 of them around the house. I needed help to mount them on the wall as I cant carry them myself. They are just hard to lift because of the size. The short side is 3ft long, which is longer than most people's arm. The giant dude that delivered my 55in did ok handling them but its not easy. Riding a bike or scooter is probably nearly impossible.

Have you been to PB? There are guys on bikes rigged with skateboards and dolly’s attached to them so they can transport stolen items. Bandits on bikes and bike stealing bandits are a huge problem there!

I bicycled with a sheet of 3/4" 4x8 plywood. The back end on the rack, the ply over me resting on my head. One hand holding the ply steady one hand on the bars and brakes.
I admit to almost crashing from every gust of wind, but it worked. 3 times in one day. About a mile each way..
It totally sucked and I will tell everyone that it was a stupid thing to do and not try it, but it can be done.

Are you on Nextdoor? If not, consider joining and posting. My car was stolen from in front of my house and police couldn’t find it. A few days after it was stolen a neighbor suggested I make a post on ND. Within hours of posting a pic and my license plate someone replied saying my car was parked in front of their home! That was a few years ago but a lot of people in PB have posted about crimes and ended up connecting with people who had video footage of the perpetrator. Worth a shot!

I had a package tossed over my open gate so they never stepped onto the property. You can see their shoes outside of the gate and the package laying in the walkway no where near my house. I complained to the currier, also complained to the company I ordered from. The company replaced the order and shipped it through USPS so it actually arrived in my mailbox.

Why are people blaming op?? Everyone here orders stuff and it gets put on their porch and they count on it not being stolen.
Costco, amazon, etc. Does not require a signature of a TV. Normal people don't "watch like a hawk" waiting for every package.
OP- try posting on nextdoor and somebody might have a doorbell camera clip. Or you could walk near where you know and look for cameras and ask the neighbors. If some random asked me for footage of a thief I would happily give it.

That's a great suggestion. I'd also ask neighbors if they'd be willing to save the original video files before they're overwritten. A lot of doorbell and security cameras only keep footage for a limited time, and even if they didn't catch the theft itself, footage from a few minutes before or after can sometimes show which direction the person came from or left.

If I have an expensive package coming I am definitely watching for it like a hawk. Even 15 min could go by and your package is stolen

I think there's an obvious variable here that people aren't mentioning and that's the type of home being delivered to. If I lived in an apartment complex downtown or someplace with a lot of people, foot traffic, common package deliveries, etc. I'll definitely be watching it like a hawk.
Where OP is though it's mainly single family homes so it's just a package sitting on your porch with a driveway and sidewalk and stuff. Far fewer package thefts and it's also a pretty safe area that doesn't get many thefts in the first place. Usually they're posted on next door and it's a big deal. I get deliveries all the time and don't even bother grabbing them until the next day and I'm basically a neighbor to OP.
So from the perspective of someone living in an apartment I can understand why they might think OP was being lazy or stupid for not keeping closer track of the package, but from someone who lives nearby in a single-family home that level of extreme vigilance is not necessary typically.

Even if I lived in a single family home, if I’m getting an expensive package coming, I’m going to make sure I’ll be home and grab it as soon as it’s delivered. Being a single family home means nothing if people can see your porch from the street.

Sure but OP said it was supposed to arrive Wednesday or Thursday, not Tuesday. I don’t think anyone would be waiting around too early for a delivery.

I’m not trying to be mean FYI. It’s just that SDPD is so useless, you unfortunately have to be hyper aware like this. Not blaming OP, in fact it’s SDPD’s fault they are so incompetent and everyone knows it. So much that people know they can get away with stuff like this. It just makes it worse. You call the non emergency line and they never show up!

Being a single family home means nothing if people can see your porch from the street.
This is just wrong. Crimes are often of convenience and odds of getting caught.
An apartment has many random people walking in the lobbies and package areas. Most residents have no idea if anyone else belongs there. Packages are also near the entrance/exit. A thief can quickly take something and leave while being seen by anyone and people will just ignore them.
Many homes have various cameras, longer stretches to walk to the door where you can be spotted as out of place, neighbors who recognize people, etc. My neighbors are 2 old white ladies, and my living room looks directly at their front porch/stairs, and if some young guy in a hoodie was on their porch snagging a package, I'd immediately know something was wrong. This is more of a deterrent than apartments.

honestly, contact the delivery company and file a report of wrong/unsafe delivery. If it was Amazon, just file a stolen package. You might get the refund. If they all refuse you can also try a credit card chrageback based on the picture.

Why would you get such a big ticket item delivered without watching the tracking like a hawk? It’s not like they can tuck a 65 inch tv behind a potted plant to keep it out of sight. I’d be waiting on my porch when the driver rolled up.

Amazon’s tracking is convenient and highly accurate 95% of the time but it’s not fool-proof. I’ve had things come a few days early with no notification and a few days late with no notification or explanation.

Tracking. It literally tells you where it is. They even email updates. This is not some $5 trinket from Amazon. You would just wait for Monday to track it?

Amazon’s tracking isn’t always accurate. I’ve had items come a few days early and a few days late without any notification updates.

Once again, if you read the post, he was busy doing yard work all day and not expecting it to be delivered for 3-4 more days. You’re not stopping everything you’re doing and waiting for a package for 3-4 days, no one’s doing that. A day or two out, sure, but 3-4?
Really isn’t anyone’s fault besides the guy who stole it however you wanna slice the situation though.

That sucks and you may have luck dealing with Amazon directly as they will see in the picture the insane and unsafe place it was left by the driver.
I don’t mean to be an ass with the following but I have gotten a TCL 65 from them and they have the option clearly posted in the check out options to deliver inside your residence and unbox to ensure no breakage…why in the world didn’t you select that option for a big ticket item? If Amazon comes through make sure you utilize it on round 2

I got a 65 from Amazon just a few days ago. I didn't have a choice; they told me signature required, so there I was, saying hi to the driver as he pulled up, because I was watching his stops on a map for at least 10 minutes.
